From the desk of Dr. Tuin, THS Principal
February 10, 2022
It was a busy week. February is usually a challenging month for some reason, and this week had more challenges than a typical February. I was proud of our team though and how they went about their work intently to address the issues and plan for making some course corrections moving forward.
It was ironic that in a week where a small group of students made some poor choices, we celebrated hundreds of students who make good choices daily and earned themselves an award of making the Superintendent’s Honor Roll and the Principal’s Honor Roll. Students who earned a 3.5 GPA were invited to the plaza to receive some treats for their hard work. It was encouraging to see all the certificates in the plaza on Tuesday.
One student who showed me his certificate transferred this year from another local school. He shared how this year has been a particularly good one where he felt successful and accepted. I appreciated his openness and willingness to share part of his story. I am so glad we were able to honor him and the myriad of other students making the honor roll.
It was kind of an event this week to learn of all the CIF participation that is going to happen this week for Tillers. Boys' soccer found out they will play foothill tomorrow at 5:00 on their field. This will be a first-ever CIF game against our cross-town rivals. Exciting!
Boys’ Basketball will compete on Friday evening here at Tustin High School at 7:00 against Twenty-nine Palms. This the following day, girls' basketball will travel to Palos Verdes Saturday evening to compete against Peninsula High School at 7:00. Both are excited about their first-round games.
Not to be left out, boys and girls wrestling will take a large crew for both teams to compete in CIF. Leilah Patel, Carmen Rosales, Destiny Huerta, and Jesus Alvarez all won individual league titles last week to lead the way to the entire team winning spots in this week's CIF Championships in Temecula.
