Have you heard about the Family Ambassadors at Columbus Africentric Early College?
Greetings Family! Welcome back!! My name is Jermaine Kennedy and I am the High School Family Ambassador at CAEC. This is my second year serving in this role and I'm looking forward to partnering with you. I have two sons that attend CAEC-- Jalil, 9th grade & Khari, 12th grade. I've spoken to many of you last year during our Check & Connect calls and looking forward to furthering those connections and discussions.
What is a Family Ambassador? And what do they do?
The goal of Family Ambassador is to act as a liaison between families of CAEC and the school and staff. My focus will be to:
(1) serve as liaisons between school and home, facilitating a partnership in support of student academic achievements. [Learning at Home]
(2) coach and mentors families on how to be engaged members of the academic team. [Relationships with Families]
(3) advise and train families on how to address issues and advocate on behalf of their children’s education. [Decision Making & Advocacy]
(4) connect families to community-based services, school counselors, and/or social workers. [Community Collaboration]
(5) expand volunteer opportunities. [Volunteering]
(6) maintain open communications with families regarding important school information (i.e. email, family bulletin board, newsletter, etc.). [Effective Communication]
More than anything else, I will serve as a resource to support you and your child(ren) as were are all a part of the CAEC Family. If you have any questions or need anything, please do not hesitate to contact me at jkennedy1@columbus.k12.oh.us or 614.806.8945.
