Perry Hall Pathways

To PHHS Freshmen and Sophomores from the College Counselor

Happy Holidays!

It's hard to believe that we have arrived at our winter break already! Hopefully your child has settled in to their school routine by this point. Once the holiday rush is over, the later winter into the spring is a great time to do some college research. Colleges will often have Spring Open Houses that you can sign up on-line to visit. There is also the CCBC College Fair coming up so check it out (information below). It is never too early to begin information gathering for college. We hope that your family will join us here at PHHS in March for the Freshman/Sophomore Family College Night (see below for details). I hope that you and your loved ones enjoy a restful and peaceful break. See you next year! Ms. Campbell

Freshmen and Sophomores: What Should I Be Doing Now?

-Review your PSAT scores. You spent an entire morning taking the PSAT, but it only really helps you if you take the time to carefully review your answers in order to do better next year. Scores not up to par? Consider practicing on Khan Academy. A free SAT resource where you can track your progress. Students practicing 20 hours on Khan Academy were able to raise their scores on average 115 points! See the link below. Perry Hall also offers a low-cost SAT prep course through the Answer Class and 20% of all tuition collected in donated to the PHHS PTSA! Dates for the classes in January and February are located at http://www.theanswerclass.com

-2nd quarter is more than halfway over! If you are having trouble in a class, don't wait till the end of the quarter for help. Talk with your teacher about setting up time to get help!

-Post-secondary planning – Choose a place where you will keep information related to your life after high school. In this folder or box, keep things to remind you of your accomplishments: copies of your service learning forms, any awards or certificates you are given, a list of activities in which you’ve participated, etc. When it’s time to write a resume’, this information will be helpful.

-Interested in CCBC after high school? See below for an Information Session coming up this weekend!

-Activities – If you have not yet participated in any after school activities, please consider trying a club during the second semester. Below is a list of clubs and activities here at PHHS.
