· Weekly rankings in the MHSAO Football Poll
· Rankings, season highlights-news stories, etc. posted on MHSAO social media outlets
· Bi-weekly MHSAO newsletter
· POSSIBLE: Player of the week and play of the week highlights
· POSSIBLE: Player of the year award(s)
POST-SEASON PLAYOFFS
At the end of the reagular season, the top four teams (based on the final MHSAO poll) will qualify for the MHSAO playoffs.
Each team selected to participate in these post-season playoffs will pay a playoff fee of $425. As outlined below.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
HOW WILL THE POLLS WORK?
Who votes in the weekly polls?
Each member school will be allowed to designate one delegate of their choosing to vote in the weekly poll. The MHSAO will provide another three “unaffiliated delegates” (not affiliated with any participating school/team).
How do delegates vote?
Each delegate will submit one ballot to the MHSAO by 11:59pm on Sunday night.
What if a school’s delegate does not return their vote by the deadline?
Late submissions will not be counted. Poll will be based on votes received by the deadline.
What if there is a tie in the voting?
In the unlikely event of a tie, the three “unattached delegates” will vote for the tie-breaker.
When will the poles come out?
Results will be tabulated and published on the MHSAO website and social media on each Monday. The first poll will be published on September 5th (subsequent polls will be September 12, 19, 26, October 3, 10, 17 and 24)
WHAT ABOUT THE PLAYOFFS?
Which poll determines who goes to the playoffs?
The final (regular season) poll will be published on October 24th. The top four teams in the Oct. 24th poll will advance to the playoffs.
What are the total costs to be involved in the MHSAO?
Each program needs to pay a $100 membership fee before August 31st. At the end of the season, the top four teams will be invited to participate in the playoffs and will need to pay an additional $425 playoff fee in order to participate in the playoff games. The host schools of the first two playoff games will need to furnish approved facilities for the playoff games at their own expense. However, to off-set the cost, the host school will retain the gate and concessions for their playoff game.
Who will pay for the championship game field, trophies, officials, etc.?
All of these expenses will come from the MHSAO membership and playoff fees, sponsors, etc.
If a school does not make the playoffs do they still have to pay the playoff fee?
No. The playoff fee is only for the teams that advance to the playoffs.
PLAYER RECOGNITION
What does the MHSAO offer by way of player or team recognition?
We are considering the possibility of highlighting (1) a weekly player of the week (2) play of the week (video), and (3) a player of the year.
How would the players be recognized?
If we do it, (1) players of the week would be spotlighted (brief article and picture) on our website and on social media outlets. (2) Plays of the week (video) would be posted to the website and or social media, (3) player of the year would be spotlighted (article and picture) on our website and on social media outlets.
How would recognition be determined?
Still working on the logistics, but we would allow each teams delegate to submit nominations for player of the week (stats) and play of the week (video). The MHSAO committee of three “unaffiliated delegates” would decide which player and plays would be highlighted each week.
The player of the year would be nominated in the same way, but the entire cohort of delegates would vote to determine the Player of the year.
What about an all-state team?
This is a great idea and is being considered. Stay tuned.
