Monroe Eagles and Families,
Mid-August greetings to you and your families. This week marked the first time our students were back on our Monroe campus as we welcomed nearly 30 first and second grade Eagles for our JumpStart program. Next week, we will welcome many of our incoming kindergarten Eagles for a week of Everett Ready (8/23 – 8/27 from 8:35am to 11:35am). Just having our learners back on campus fills us with joy as we excitedly prepare for the coming 2021/2022 school year. Below are a few mid-August notes. Updates will continue across the coming weeks, leading us to our anticipated start on Wednesday, September 8th (grades 1st through 5th).
Please continue to check our website for updates (link) and our supplies list (link). Thank you for your time and for the opportunity to serve you and your family as part of our Monroe school community.
Meet Your Teacher! Each year, as we prepare for the opening of our school, we host a Meet Your Teacher opportunity. This year, Meet Your Teacher is planned for Thursday, September 2nd here on our Monroe campus. Additional information including finalized times is forthcoming. For now, please circle that date (late afternoon to early evening) on your family calendar. By hosting this opportunity on the Thursday before school is expected to begin, students and families will be able to go into the Labor Day weekend knowing who their teacher will be the following week. We expect to send teacher information home prior to that date but will have greeters at the event with student/teacher information as well.
Expected COVID Protocols: As the COVID pandemic continues to challenge our community, state, nation, and world, we remain committed to the health and safety of our students, staff, and families. In order to provide a fulltime, in-person school environment for the 2021/2022 school year, we will need to continually update our health/safety protocols to address the ever-developing iterations of this virus. The use of masks and distancing remain at the center of our school protocols. Our Everett Public Schools have prepared and extensive Frequently Asked Questions webpage (link). This information is based on current COVID guidance and may be subject to change across the coming weeks. That noted, we are confident that we will provide your children and family with a high quality learning and social/emotional environment while keeping heath and safety our ongoing priority. Nothing is more exciting than the thought of having all of our Eagles back on campus soon!
Free Breakfast and Lunch! Please know that both breakfast and lunch are free this year, available to every student/family at no charge. That noted, our Everett Public Schools would value your continued participation in completing the free/reduced application. Only one application is needed per family. While not required this year for school meals, this information is utilized by our district and state to better align school resources and available programs. The online version is the quickest and easiest way to complete an application – https://frapps.horizonsolana.com/EVEP01
Chromebook Update: This year, our kindergarten, first and second graders will be provided two Chromebook devices – one for home and one for school. The school Chromebooks will stay be stored/charged in their classroom cart so that these devices are ready to go each morning. Additionally, a Chromebook device will be checked-out to each kindergarten, first and second grader for home use throughout the school year. These students will not need to bring their Chromebook to/from school. Our third, fourth, and fifth graders will be provided one Chromebook device for both home and school use. Many students (grades 1st – 5th) already have a Chromebook that was checked-out to them last year. We are asking that all students with a Chromebook bring this device with them on the first day of school so that we can update (and/or replace) as needed. Should your family not wish to check-out a Chromebook, please communicate this to your child’s teacher during the first week of school.
Chromebook not working well this summer?
If your child has a Chromebook, checked-out to them last school year, and that device has not been working well this summer, please update that device via the below process:
To update your Chromebook: 1) Please select shutdown that device selecting time/power at the bottom right of the screen. 2) Select sign out/shutdown and the device will power off. Restart the device and as part of that shutdown/restart process, the Chromebook will update. Once updated, the device should function more effectively. You should try to update in this manner on a weekly basis to stay current with needed updates.
Please Join Our Monroe PTA!
Our school office is open daily, Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Please stop-by, call, or email with any questions and/or needs.
On behalf of our entire Monroe Team, we wish you and your family the absolute best. We are beyond excited to see you all and celebrate coming together for this 2021/2022 school year!
Please look for additional updates across the coming weeks - Take care and please stay safe and well.
