Our students scooped the pool in the Primary School category of the council's photo competition. Congratulations to:

  • 1st Place : Jai - Year 5
  • 2nd Place : Aditya - Year 3
  • 3rd Place : Georgia - Year 5

Due to the generous sponsors the school also benefited from our students winning. A special mention needs to be made about 3F's efforts, every student in the class submitted a photo. Well done to 3F and Miss Fahey! Thank you also to all the parents and children who represented Banksmeadow by attending the presentation night.

Painting the exterior of the school

As you are all well aware we have an extensive painting program being carried out at the moment. The exterior surfaces of the buildings are in poor condition and some painting was carried out 12 - 18 months ago. To have the painting completed was an important goal for the school. Unfortunately, this has lead to some inconvenience as sections of the school are cordoned off. We have reached a stage where a large cherry-picker was required on site to reach the tallest parts of Block B. This has caused us to reorganise many of our daily routines to maintain a safe environment for students and staff. We ask all parents to ensure when they are entering and leaving the school with their children that they do not enter areas that have been fenced or roped off. We are sure that the end result will be worth it.

In the near future the entrance gate on Brighton St will be upgraded to allow easier access. The entrance has always been difficult to manoeuvre and many parents have complained about it. Finally something will be done about it! Again this will cause some inconvenience for parents and students while the work is being carried out but will be worth the short term pain.

Renovations are also due to take place in the old hall soon and in order to clear space we will need to part with the air hockey table. If you are interested in owning this table, please see the office with a bid. The table will go to the highest bidder and will need to be removed from the old hall before Friday 22 November.

Year 6 Guessing Competition

You could be in the draw to win 2 pairs of Maui Jim sunglasses with a combined value of over $600. The prize pack includes one pair of men's Pilot sunglasses in silver and gray and one pair of women's Nalani sunglasses in tortoise with white and blue HCL bronze lenses, both are pictured below.

All you need to do to enter is purchase tickets from Year 6 students and correctly guess the students' gift to the school. All proceeds from this competition are going towards the Year 6 gift to the school and their farewell evening.

Tickets can be purchased from Year 6 students at the cake stall or next week before school. They are $2 per ticket or 3 for $5. The winners will be drawn at the Mini Fete on Friday 5 December. The sunglasses will be on display at this Friday's cake stall. Thanks to Nikki at mivision for donating this great prize!

Library News

This is the last week that the students will be able to borrow from the library as Mrs MacDonald will be doing a stocktake of books. We appreciate your assistance in ensuring that your children return borrowed books next week.

Students in years 3-6 can begin recording books from September 2014 for the 2015 Premier’s Reading Challenge. Unfortunately this can’t be done online so they need to recorded in a different way and then entered on computers next year. Children have been provided with a PRC recording sheet or of course you can keep a record any way that suits you. By beginning now it will make it easier for reading targets to be met in 2015.

It would be great to have every child in the school receive a PRC certificate next year. Certificates for this year will be given out by week 10.

Students of the Week

Congratulations to these fine students.
