Lagos Elementary Spartan Newsletter
October 2020
Dear Lagos Parents and Families:
I’m extremely excited to welcome our scholars back to Lagos Elementary on October 19th. We have missed our children dearly! Parents, we sincerely thank you for your partnership during the last 9 weeks our scholars have been learning remotely. We are eager to continue to grow and learn with your scholar as we navigate through this unprecedented time. In this newsletter, I will share with you what we plan to do in order to keep your child safe during their time on campus. Grade levels teams should be reaching out to you before October 19th to share with you what you can expect within your child’s grade level in their return to learn grade level plans.
I’m looking forward to a safe and healthy school year!
Sincerely,
Ms. Hawkins
Principal
¡Hemos extrañado mucho a nuestros hijos!
Sinceramente,
Sra. Hawkins

What will school look like in Person?
ATTENDANCE
Parents, this is a friendly reminder that we take attendance every day for all of our students. For our students participating in remote learning, we need to see active participation within our zoom classes as well as within Google Classroom at 8:00 AM. A teacher will often have a question about the day or issue of the posted day and students will need to respond. This is one way we measure active participation and attendance is captured.
For our in-person students, school begins at 7:30 a.m. M. And students will be counted late after 7:45 a.m. M. Attendance is taken once school has started.
ARRIVAL
Parents, please stay in your car and use our path to allow students to exit their vehicle to enter the building. All students will have their temperature checked upon arrival. If your temperature is 100 or higher, we will take it again in five minutes. If it is still 100 or more, the nurse will take your temperature by mouth. Again, if there are still 100 or more, the student will be sent home with instructions on when they can return to school.
BREAKFAST
Breakfast will be delivered in the hallways. Teachers will ask students if they want breakfast and if they do, they will walk out one at a time to get breakfast, and bring it inside the classroom to eat. Thanks to a grant, breakfast will be free for all students for the rest of the year.
CAFETERIA
The cafeteria is set up to accommodate social distancing guidelines. There are social distancing markings on the floor to help remind students while they are in line. Each table will have Plexiglass and partitions between the students. Students will sit in any other seat. Thanks to a scholarship, lunch is free for all students for the rest of the year.
CLASSROOMS
The classrooms are configured to accommodate social distancing guidelines. Students will be in rows, facing the front of the classroom. Students will sit in groups only when meeting with the teacher for small groups or interventions. There will be sneeze guards AND face shields for students at each small group table and individual desks.
HAND SANITIZING STATIONS
There are hand sanitizing stations located in the front of the building, in the back of the building on buses, the main hallway, the cafeteria on the service lines, the gym for physical education, and near the restrooms. Students will have frequent bathroom breaks to wash their hands regularly.
