Information for the 2019-2020 School Year
Dear Parents,
With the end of the year quickly approaching, I wanted to notify you of John B. Dey’s procedure for class assignments. Class placement for the 2019-2020 school year will be mailed to you in August. When report cards are mailed the week after school ends, you will note that your child will not receive a room number or teacher, only a grade level placement.
In addition, I would like to remind you that we cannot take requests for specific classroom teachers for next year. Your current classroom teacher, along with administration and specialists, take many things into account when creating class lists. Please do not ask your child’s teacher to place your child into a specific teacher’s class. If you have concerns that need to be addressed in regards to next year, please contact me to set up a meeting. I am happy to hear your concerns and work with you in regards to what is best for your child.
Class lists are finalized in August after any staffing changes that may take place in the summer and mailed approximately August 16th. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work hard to make these educational decisions to place your child where he/she will flourish.
Mark your calendars for our MEET AND GREET events for next year. The purpose of Meet and Greet is to meet the teacher, and drop off supplies. It’s a quick greeting-not OPEN HOUSE or conference time.
Meet and Greet Date: Thursday, August 29, 2019.
Kindergarten AM and Grade 1: 8:30-9:15
Grade 2 and Kindergarten PM: 9:30-10:15
Grade 3: 10:30-11:15
Grade 4: 11:30-12:15
Grade 5: 12:30-1:15
OPEN HOUSE will be held during the 2nd week in September. Exact dates and times are to be determined. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 3rd.
We are looking forward to finishing this school year with flying colors and are already excited about the 2019-2020 school year!
Congratulations to Nicole Linderman
Celebrating Reading!
Congratulations to Lynne Logan and her Dey-namic Volunteers
Thanks for your help with our Seagull readers!
Congratulations to our Safety Patrols of the Month for the Second Semester!
2019-2020 Safety Patrols Requirements and Application Process
1. Excellent academic record from grades 3 and 4
2. No discipline infractions-including bus referrals
3. Demonstrate strong character traits including integrity, honesty, and being responsible.
4. Positive classroom teacher recommendation
5. Completed essay with clear and specific reasons for why they would like to be a safety patrol.
6. Prompt return of the application. Late applications will not be accepted.
There will be two rounds of applications for safety patrols and for this application time frame, chosen safety patrols will serve for the first semester. Those selected must be available to attend a meeting during the last week of August.
A second round of safety patrols will serve the second semester giving the opportunity for new mid-year applications. We have awesome students at John B. Dey, and we receive many more applications than positions. Having two rounds of applications allows more children to have a chance.
Thank you!
