HPS Elementary Curriculum Updates
Fall 2022
2022-2023 Curriculum Initiatives
The HPS Strategic Plan outlines several areas of focus related to curriculum and instruction, in support of our district's mission to cultivate equitable, inclusive, and innovative learning environments. The following elementary curriculum newsletter outlines progress towards strategic initiatives, as we continue to evolve and strengthen curriculum and instruction.
iReady Diagnostic & iReady myPath
This year, elementary educators across the district will use iReady diagnostic assessments and the iReady myPath personalized learning platform to support K-5 math and Gr. 3-5 reading instruction. iReady assessments will become part of the suite of district data used to analyze individual strengths and areas for growth, inform instructional grouping in our multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), and monitor student progress.
K-5 Reading Program Pilots
K-5 Mathematics Workshop Series
In order to support best practices in mathematics instruction, HPS elementary math specialists have developed a four-part early release professional development series for K-5 educators, titled Universally Designed Math Instruction. Elementary math specialists are also working with consultants from the Lesley University mathematics education department to further support math instruction. Additionally, elementary math paraprofessionals and interventionists participated in a Foundations of Fractions workshop series, hosted by presenters from Grassroots.

Fine Arts--Music Notes
The HPS Fine Arts department, in partnership with the Kids in Action program, will pilot after school strings lessons at South Elementary School beginning in January. The pilot classes will consist of beginner group lessons of approximately 10 students each for 45 minutes. The target grade will be third and fourth graders and the curriculum will build upon the foundational concepts of music and string instruments based upon our current elementary instrument program. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting offering.
