Weekly Newsletter
This week, I'd like to introduce to the Wildcat community the newest member of our ECHS Administration team, Mrs. Ariana Rodriguez! Mrs. Rodriguez joined our team at the start of this school year and she will work with students whose last names are Lous - Rios.
Mrs Rodriguez is happy to be back in North County San Diego where she was raised and attended school. Mrs. Rodriguez started her career in education in 2007 as a proud AmeriCorps member and her background includes studies in psychology, aviation science, and counseling with specialization in schools. Most recently, Mrs. Rodriguez was a high school counselor for eight years in Los Angeles County and Carlsbad. Mrs. Rodriguez is a passionate advocate for educational equity and is overjoyed to be here!
We are excited about the expertise she brings to our team!
Tardy Policy & Cell Phone Policy
Parents and guardians, we need your help. As we head into the 2nd full week of school, we will begin implementing our lunch detention for tardies. For more information on the tardy policy, lunch detention and Saturday School, check out page 14 of our ECHS Student Handbook. Also, we want to let you know that the majority of our students are doing very well with our cell phone policy! Please ensure your student is aware that teachers may confiscate your child’s cell phone if they are out during class. For detailed information on our cell phone policy, see pages 17-18 of our ECHS Student Handbook.
School Safety and Security
The Oceanside Unified School District is committed to maintaining safe and secure campuses in order to promote the health, and well-being of our students, families, and staff. The following prevention practices are in place to support the safety and security of our school.
- In September, all of our staff will participate in an Active Assailant training where we will learn and practice response protocols for keeping our students safe in the unlikely situation involving an armed intruder.
- Our school regularly practices disaster and evacuation drills with our students and staff, including a minimum of two lockdown drills per year.
- OUSD partners with the Oceanside Police Department to provide four dedicated School Resource Officers (SRO) who are trained members of the National Association of School Resource Officers. El Camino has an SRO stationed here on our campus. The SROs will respond to any safety issues that arise at any of our schools.
- OUSD employs a highly trained team of over 45 Campus Security who serve our middle schools, high schools, and Surfside Academy.
- This summer, our administrative and custodial team led by the Student Services Coordinator, SRO(s) and OPD SWAT Officers conducted a comprehensive campus security walkthrough.
- Our school has the Raptor Visitor Management System which tracks all visitors or volunteers entering campus. Authorized visitors are then presented with a clearly marked identification badge.
- Our school has a comprehensive Crisis Response Plan that is reviewed annually with all staff, and placed in all classrooms, that details how to safely respond to specific emergency situations.
