Project Lead The Way
Our district will have a District Transformation Training on January 14th and 15th. This will take place during the school day at the Innovation Hub (3rd floor of DTSE) from 8:00-4:00.
I need 2-3 teachers from each building, including your art teacher, to be trained in PLTW. Additionally, 1 teacher from each building will be selected to be Lead Teacher Trained at the PLTW Summit on Feb. 8th -10th. This will all be paid for out of grants from PLTW.
Teachers/Support staff that participate in this training will receive 2 hours of stipend pay for pretraining work (approximately 1.5 hours) and training that possibly runs over contract time on January 14th and 15th (30 minutes total). Lunch will also be provided for training. Thanks Mrs. Hofer!!!

Nice Work Sherlock!
There will be a box at PD where you can put your answer on a piece of paper with your name on the back. We will draw a name at PD that afternoon where the winner will win a prize.
Here is the Nice Work Sherlock for week 3:
How could this improve?
I do: Use 1-3 on p. 366 or teacher choice to model thinking through the problem. Continue to model on page 3 with student input.
We do: Powerpoint with guided practice.
You do: Students complete Solve and Share as teacher walks around observing. Teachers will pick a few to share their answers.

Safety Information Update
Fire Drills
As we work to be even more safe, we will alter our plans for a fire drill slightly. In order to combat using a fire alarm in an active shooter situation and ensure you are taking the correct route (fire clocking first route), protocol is now to have the classroom teacher first look into the hallway first, once the teacher determines it is safe to exit then they can have the students evacuate. Thank you for your assistance in making Stephen Decatur as safe as possible.Safety Bags
With specials pass being an option in the Eagle Store, we want to add that teachers need to adjust the number on the laminated paper on your safety bag for specials (if you have 24 and 2 go to a different special, change your number to 22; the other class will need to raise their number as well). Please let Angel know if you need a new paper for your bag.

From our Social Emotional Learning Coach:
After meeting with the other SEL Coaches and Officer Lyday, it was agreed upon that Grade Levels 1-3 & 6 should be through Unit 2 by the end of the first semester, whereas Grade Levels 4 & 5 should be through Unit 1 by the end of the first semester. Although it is acceptable to supplement the Second Step curriculum with other material, it is expected that we do get through the curriculum in its entirety.
Also, part of my job responsibilities will be to observe Second Step lessons in action. If you would be open to an observation, please send Alicia an email.
From the Culture & Climate Team:
We have been working on a uniform "tracker" to leave for a sub in place of Class Dojo for the day of a teacher's absence. You can find it here: Guest Teacher Behavior Log. You will need to make a copy first if you're wanting to type your student names in, and then save it to your drive. If you need help, you can see any Culture & Climate team member!
