Let's Learn in Our Own Way
With the first trimester closed and conferences happening, your classroom teacher probably shared about our dynamic Learning Lab with the work of Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Myers, typically during our USE (Unique Support and Extension) Time. We have a strong belief that all students need something to spend extra time on; it may be additional support on a skill or standard or extension on a learned skill or standard.
We take that belief and partner with our Student Support Coordinator, Mrs. Hill and Resource Specialist teacher, Mrs. Myers (see picture) along with our paraprofessionals to create the Learning Lab. The Learning Lab is a space for all our students to come in small groups to learn, have a quiet spot to reset and recharge, and a safe haven with trusted adults that just get kids. Small group instruction occurs in language arts or math, depending on the partnership with the grade level. During this instruction, the classroom/grade level receives additional paraprofessional support for extension, while the teacher and Learning Lab team focus on support. The agreement is that no new instruction will occur in the classroom, instead focusing on the unique learning needs of each student. Depending on the grade level, this occurs K-6th up to four times a week for 30 minutes.
RAINY DAY PLANS
Please know that with an outdoor campus, getting wet will be inevitable when it is raining--as it is on any school campus when arriving or dismissing. Send your children to school with umbrellas and rain gear. Younger children are encouraged to bring a change of socks in their backpacks, should they be needed.
Even when there is precipitation, a normal school schedule is in effect and tardies will be enforced. Please plan your day accordingly to account for traffic. Absences related to the weather are not excused.
Unless your child is enrolled in the Extended Care, no student shall be on campus before 8:00. We do not want our children standing in the rain.
DROP OFF:
If it rains, all students are asked to report to the GYM in the morning where they can play, eat breakfast, and will be supervised. Teachers will pick students up from the gym and escort them to class at 8:27.
DISMISSAL:
If it is raining at dismissal, we will follow the normal dismissal routine. Any student still on campus 5 minutes after dismissal, will be escorted to the office/front planters under coverage. Students will receive a consequence if they are deciding to play in the water/rain as they wait; this is simply not safe.
BE Safe. BE Responsible. BE Respectful.
BE YOUR BINKLEY BEST!
Warmly,
Harmony Harvell, Principal
