SCHOOL NUTRITION NEWSLETTER

Message from the Director

Today is School Lunch Hero Day and it is an honor to be a part of the world's greatest school nutrition team! Few people understand our business or know the professional level skills needed to do this job. I am proud to tell our story because I think you are each extraordinary in the way you build relationships and bring caring and compassion to your position. You are continuous learners, the greatest example anyone can set for students. You are not afraid of challenge, and you've proven that over and over. Actually, I think you are fearless. When the world was on Covid lockdown, you were here working in rain, sleet, snow and brutal heat meeting an overwhelming demand for meals to feed the community. Thank you for your incredible contribution to our students' academic success and social emotional health with your nurturing spirit. In addition to your culinary talents, you are kind, fun and the heart of the schoolhouse!

With gratitude,

Kathy

RIP Hobart Dishmachine 1993 - 2023
We reached a milestone at VHS this week when the 30+ year old Hobart Dishmachine was dismantled and hauled away. The machine took its last breath in February and Joyce has been washing dishes by hand every since. I think she looks pretty happy to make way for the new machine.

It really speaks to your character and commitment when, on a day meant for honoring you, making it fun for students with a promotion was your priority! At TJM, Nancy worked with the art teacher, Roxanne Witherspoon, to create student works of mexican Talavera tile art. What a muy fabuloso way of connecting classrooms to the cafeteria, Senora Moore!

Thank you, Rachael

Special thanks to Rachael Danyi for creating a custom certificate of appreciation for each and every one of you. She reached out to the Superintendent's office and Dr. McCall personally signed each certificate. Rachael also worked with local restaurants who donated great food for the Appreciation Lunch. Nice!

MPLH

The Meals per Labor Hour (MPLH) report for April shows continued growth at several schools. A decline in meals served at the high school due to the crowded temporary serving area is having a negative effect as they slip into the yellow zone. This should rebound once the new Servery is opened up. Nice work, everyone, way to finish strong! Click the file below for better viewing.
