History
Cyprus is a island and one of the countries who joined the EU as of May 1, 2004. But it is not considered to be one of the founders of the EU due to its low political power at the time. Before, Cyprus was a British Colony before 1960, but was then invaded by Turkey in 1974, losing 1/3 of it's land leaving the it divided to this day.
Geography
Cyprus is a island in the Mediterranean Sea directly South of Turkey.

The color inside the country represents copper, while the white background and green olive branches represent peace.
