Winter Weather
School Closing Information
Winter weather will be here before we know it, and Fulton Public Schools is preparing for the inevitable snow day. Officials consider many things when making decisions on inclement weather days; however, the final decision is always determined by what is best for the students. Student safety is the top priority of our school district.
Cancellation of School
As soon as the decision is made to cancel school, the district will launch the School Messenger phone messaging system to call the home and/or cell number you have provided the school upon enrollment of your child (if during the school day, an email and text message will be sent--not a phone call.) Please make sure this information is correct in our system.
The district will also notify local TV stations (KOMU - Channel 8, KRCG - Channel 13, and KMIZ - Channel 17). THE SCHOOL DISTRICT ASKS PARENTS OR GUARDIANS NOT TO CALL SCHOOLS OR TELEVISION STATIONS ABOUT THE CANCELLATION OF SCHOOL.
Our district website (fulton58.org) will be updated with early dismissal and cancellation notices as well as Facebook & Instagram - @FPSHornets.
Early Dismissal
Occasionally, school will be dismissed early due to bad weather. If an early dismissal is required, an announcement will be made that school will be dismissed a specific number of hours early from the building’s normal dismissal time. School buses will run beginning at the dismissal time announced on those days if school is canceled midday.
TEXT ALERTS - via School Messenger
Please make sure your email address and phone number are correct in your Parent Portal. In addition to providing correct contact information, FPS needs you to complete one more step so you can receive text messages. Please text Y or Yes to 67587 to Opt-in.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Snow Routes - 2022-23 School Year
Snow Routes will only be implemented once main roads are deemed passable.
Snow Routes may be needed due to significant accumulation where crews are not able to clear bus turnarounds, cul-de-sacs, and other treacherous areas.
Buses may be as much as 15 minutes early or late to any bus stop. Please dress students appropriately for the weather in preparation for longer than normal wait times.
To find the bus routes please visit the link below.
P-EBT Benefits for the 2021-22 School Year and Summer 2022 Are Now Available
The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program is now available for the 2021-22 school year and summer 2022. The eligibility criteria is different than previously administered P-EBT benefits, so families should read the new program information thoroughly.
Student eligibility for 2021-22 P-EBT benefits is based on students’ free or reduced-price meal eligibility and COVID-related absences, virtual attendance, and school closures. Families must have had an approved National School Lunch Program (NSLP) household application, be eligible through direct certification, or have attended a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) or Provision 2 school during the 2021-22 school year.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) provided local education agencies (LEAs) with a sample letter to families to explain in more detail the benefits and eligibility criteria for this round of P-EBT. LEAs are currently in the process of submitting school absence data to DESE, reflecting COVID-related absences on-file from the 2021-22 school year. DESE will review the data and share benefit amounts with the Department of Social Services (DSS). DSS will load the funds onto new or existing P-EBT cards.
P-EBT is a food assistance benefit for students who are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals under the NSLP. Throughout the 2021-22 school year, COVID-19 continued to cause schools to operate with reduced attendance. The number of consecutive school days missed due to a COVID-related absence will be linked to a predetermined benefit level (see below).
