Kindergarten News:
This week kindergarten has been learning about personal narratives. We know that these are stories about us! We learned that we write about small moments in our lives. Our stories will have a beginning, middle and, end. Our stories will answer the questions, "Who, What, When, and Where".
We are spending a quick week learning about the ice age. We made woolly mammoths and ice age cave scenes.
We are also enjoying math games with our neighbor/parnter.
The "Elmer's Day Parade," where Mrs. King's kindergarten class showed their true colors.

Art Room News:
First Grade
Color Theory
Last week we started our unit on color theory by first reading The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Dawalt. Then the students drew a picture for each color on a paper that had been divided into eight parts. This week the students learned about color mixing and the color wheel. They started with primary colors and then mixed paint to make secondary colors. Finally they painted flowers using all of the colors they created.
Second Grade
Gallery Walk and Talk
Second graders strolled through the school viewing all of the artwork on display. We stopped and talked about each grouping. They had clipboards with a scavenger hunt and questions. They had to find art that was abstract, horizontal, mixed-media, black and white, etc. Some of the questions they had to answer were “What was something you really liked?”, “What was something you learned?”, “What was something you would buy to hang in your room?”
Fourth Grade
Value Drawings - Landscapes and Still Lifes
Fourth graders have been learning about value as one of the most important elements in art. We started by working in charcoals and they made renderings of an apple (Ms. McEntee’s class) and a landscape (Ms. Macomber’s class). They learned the concepts of shadowing, highlighting, contrast and gray scales. They then did a color rendition of the same subject matter. Lastly they worked on landscape scenes depicting a spring forest. All of this work was done in pastels.
