GO BLAZE!
AN IMPACT FOR YEARS TO COME
When Blackman High School opened in August of 2000, a young sophomore enrolled who was eager to play basketball. Nathan Stephens was not the tallest, fastest, or quickest, but what he lacked in these areas, he made up for in desire, determination, and work ethic. As the months passed, coaches and staff could see that this young man was an outstanding representative of a BHS student athlete.
During that inaugural season while the growing pains existed and wins were challenging to achieve, Nathan displayed an outstanding work ethic – always trying to improve. During his junior year, Nathan was surrounded by talented players including Isaiah Philips, David Price, Kris Lee, & Will Redding and the winning tradition began. In both struggles and success, his unselfish nature continued to be on display.
Nathan was friendly to everyone. He was upbeat and always had a smile on his face. He was kind, caring, and inclusive to all. He would speak to the lonely freshman or the popular student and be comfortable in both situations.
After graduating from Blackman, Nathan attended UT Knoxville. While there Nathan passed away in August 2007 while playing the game he loved. In his honor the Nathan Stephens Memorial Scholarship was established.

*Please let us know about any seniors you’re concerned about.
*Note from our Graduation Coach, Kim Garrott—Teachers, this is the time of the year where we must have hard conversations about student failing for the year and sometimes seniors possibly not graduating. Just a reminder—the first call home about a student failing your class needs to come from you. During this call, please let them know what they need to make during this last quarter and semester to pass for the year. This is especially important for our seniors! Once you’ve made the call, please let that student’s counselor and me (the Grad Coach) know that you’ve made contact. Thank you for much for what you do and how hard you work!
*We’re celebrating the end of EOC testing and getting ready for the beginning of Final Exams and thought that this would be a much-needed stress reliever for both students AND teachers! What do you think Dr. Justus and Mr. Pedigo? Llamapalooza?
We are so thankful to be part of this team! Go Blaze!
