Basketball Hosts Area Contests This Week

Hewitt-Trussville Basketball will host a pair of Area games this week. On Tuesday, HT will host Spain Park. Tipoff times are below:

4:30pm-JV Boys

6:00pm-9th Grade Boys

6:00pm-Varsity Girls

7:30pm-Varsity Boys

On Friday, the Huskies will host Gadsden City in another Area contest.

Girls Basketball Beats Vestavia in Area Opener

Hewitt-Trussville Girls Basketball used a final second defensive stand to slip past Vestavia 49-47 on Friday night in the 7A Area 6 opener for both teams. The Huskies are now 17-3 overall on the season.

D'yona Jones hit 12 of 17 shots from the field and was a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line to score a game-high 27 points. Jones also added four blocks and three rebounds. April Hooks added eight points while Jordan Hunter and Chris James scored four points each.

The Huskies led 15-12 after the first period and extended the lead to four points at halftime. The Rebels tied the game as the third quarter ended. The Huskies held a two point lead with 10 seconds left, but the Rebels had the final shot. The VH shot fell off the rim and Chris James secured the rebound and sealed the win.

The Huskies will remain in Region play when they host Spain Park on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 6pm.

Tristan Atwood Rolls Perfect 300 Game!

HT Freshman Tristan Atwood made history on Tuesday when he rolled a perfect 300 game. To have a perfect game, a bowler must have 12 strikes in a row.

Wrestling Takes Thriller Over Vestavia to Win Region

Hewitt-Trussville Wrestling defeated Vestavia 34-32 on Saturday afternoon in thrilling fashion to claim the 7A Region 3 title. The Huskies trailed 32-25 with just two matches to go. Dalton Zimmerman claimed a 3rd period pin to bring the team score to 32-31. 8th grader Deuce Alston was the final HT wrestler of the day. Alston won his match 3-2 after it went all three periods.

Earlier in the day, Thomas Shaffer opened the scoring with a pin. Logan Reaves then collected a 12-0 decision over his opponent. Lucas Reaves then followed with a 3-1 victory. Luke Golden rallied late for a 8-5 win. Hunter Jones was dominant in a 21-6 win and Bradley Hastings controlled his match and won 8-0.

The victory put the Huskies at a perfect 4-0 in Region play and they earned the Region title. HT will host Bob Jones in the state quarterfinals this week.

2022 and 2023 Varsity Football Schedules Released

Hewitt-Trussville Football has released its 2022 and 2023 Varsity Football schedules. The Huskies will once again compete in 7A Region 3. The next cycle will see Chelsea replacing Gadsden City in the Region. For the Huskies, the 2022 and 2023 schedules match each other with home/away changing. Coach Josh Floyd's team will play Central Phenix City, Gadsden City, and Huffman in non-region contests. Information surrounding Homecoming, Senior Night, etc. will be released soon.

Bowling Readies for Final Week of Regular Season

Hewitt-Trussville Bowling will be competing for a spot in the AHSAA Regionals this week as the regular season comes to an end.

On Tuesday, the Huskies will compete in the Rebel Roll event in Vestavia. On Thursday, HT will host Hartselle in the final regular season match of the year. After Thursday's match, the AHSAA postseason picture will be set.
