Highland Happenings

October 29th, 2021

Happy Halloween!

Today was a wonderfully festive day of Halloween celebrations. We had our second all school meeting of the year, paraded our costumes around the school, and had our first true class parties since Winter of 2019. A very big thank you to all of our Highland PTA volunteers who made our Halloween parties possible. HERE are the Downers Grove Trick-or-Treating guidelines for this year. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback. Have a safe and Happy Halloween!!!

Optional Student COVID-19 Testing

Voluntary COVID Testing Program Signup

District 58 encourages families to consider signing up for free PCR COVID-19 testing for District 58 students. Registration for this optional testing program is open and our program is actively underway.

Families can select from any or all of three types of testing services including:

  1. Weekly screening testing (routine testing)

  2. Symptomatic testing (testing when a student or staff member develops symptoms at school)

  3. Test-to-Stay (testing for situations in which a student has been identified as a close contact)

Test-to-Stay, an IDPH-endorsed process that allows a close contact to remain in school with regular antigen testing, will begin next week. Please see the district communication regarding the IDPH's guidance regarding when Test-to-Stay can be implemented in schools.

The student sign up for our school can be found below.

PTA All Day

Zac, What an exciting week! Here's the Happenings info:

Reflections Art Program

The Reflections Art Program is back! Fliers went home by backpack mail this week with more information. Students are invited to reflect on the theme, "I Will Change the World By..." and create artwork in the categories of photography, literature, visual arts, music composition, film production, dance choreography, or special artist. We can't wait to see the unique and creative art projects submitted by our students! Any questions, please contact Highland's Reflections Chair Vikki Beening.

Thank you Treat Day and Classroom Party Volunteers!

A H*U*G*E thank you to our Treat Day Chair Vikki Beening, the Treat Day helpers, and our classroom party hosts. It is so exciting to get back to fun events like classroom parties and treats, and we couldn't deliver these fun activities without our volunteer support. Whether you planned a party, delivered Treat Day cookies around the school, or otherwise contributed to the exciting events of today, please know that the PTA appreciates you!

Next PTA Meeting: 11/16/21

Our next general PTA meeting will be on Tuesday, November 16th at 7pm. We are planning to meet in-person at the school, but may be able to offer a remote/virtual option as well. Watch for details in the coming weeks.

Save the Date: Holiday Shop on 12/4

Our Holiday Shop will be on December 4th. Students will be able to shop for presents for their family members in the gym. More information coming soon, along with opportunities to volunteer and help with this event.
