Room 110 News
February 4, 2016
Dear Families:
The next few weeks will be filled with excitement and adventure for our first graders!
On Tuesday 2/9 we will also be performing at our school-wide celebration of Black History Month! Both first grade classes will be singing the Black National Anthem, "Lift Every Voice And Sing". Students have brought a copy of the song home to practice. I have encouraged them to practice 5 times each night. This can count toward their reading homework! The assembly will begin at 8:15 am.
Thursday 2/11--We will be celebrating Valentine's Day a few days early this year! Our "Friendship Party" will begin at 1:15 and go until the end of the day (2:20). Creating or buying Valentines is optional, but if you bring a Valentine for one, please bring for all. You will find a class list at the bottom of this newsletter, a paper list was sent home on Wednesday in the Communication Folder.
*Sign-Ups for party snacks are on the bulletin board outside room 110!
Friday--Stay home, there's no school until next Tuesday, the 16th
Wednesday, 2/17 is THE 100TH DAY OF SCHOOL! We will spend the day doing a variety of activities related to the number 100. Feel free to pop in and join us if you'd like.
On Wednesday, 2/24 we will be going the Oakland Museum of California to watch a performance by SoVoSo. Check out this link to learn more about them:
We are also so lucky to have Ms. Amita Shah as our class' student teacher! Ms. Shah is currently one of Jefferson's amazing inclusion teachers. She is earning her multiple subject credential is and working in our room as student teacher. It is wonderful gift to have someone with her expertise working in the room! Yay!
NEW PICK UP PROCEDURES FOR FIRST GRADERS!
1. All JAZ students will be walked by their teacher directly to the JAZ leaders
2. All Bus riders will be walked to the Bus Pick Up spot and handed-off to the staff member on Bus Duty
3. All students in PTA classes will be walked to their class by their teacher
4. All students getting picked up by parents will be released to parents at the classroom door. (If parents are running late, students will walk with me as I am dropping off other groups of students and then will be walked to the office)
This is to ensure that all students get safely to where they are supposed to be every day after school. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at: susannereed@berkeley.net
