Adult time for adult crime?
A bill presented by Abby Dunham
An act relating to preventing courts from charging juveniles as adults
- Trying juveniles as adults and placing them in adult prisons lessens their chances for full rehabilitation in order to be inserted back into society as a fully active, responsible, well being citizen of society.
- Juveniles are not entitled to the same rights as adults because they do not have the same responsibilities. It would be wrong to charge juveniles as adults because they are not yet applicable.
- The Department of Juvenile Justice urges you to pass this bill to give juvenile offenders the punishment they deserve in the court they should be tried in. We need to help them get back on track.
