ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families,
This week was our first full week of school ~ this is always the point at which we see routines and relationships develop and solidify. This was probably visible to you at Open House, as your students shared their school highlights with you and introduced you to their teachers.
For everyone who participated in the CCS Open House and potluck, you felt the energy that was captured by our community art project- POSITIVE, CARING, KIND, LEARNING, COMMUNITY! These descriptive words were generated by a student and staff survey and reflect what we strive for at CCS each and every day and were present and alive at our annual Open House and Potluck last night! Thank you all for sharing your children with us and coming to join us for the evening. The collaborative relationship that develops between a student, their family and their teachers is one of the most critical and influential components in the success of a child’s educational experience.
The word COMMUNITY really stands out to us this week, as we are in the midst of enhancing our community partnerships in a variety of ways to not only address the safety of our schools, but to also support the growth of collaborative partnerships that engage our students with the community members they can rely upon each and every day. Here are some highlights of these collaborative endeavors:
- Over the past two weeks, the Charlotte Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services have delivered two days of comprehensive safety education to our students in each grade.
- During Tuesday’s Professional Development time, teachers participated in one of two available trainings focused on school safety - either Stop the Bleed training offered by UVM Medical Service or basic safety and first aid offered by CCS school nurse Lauren Calkins.
- Teachers in all classrooms are reviewing basic safety procedures and practices with students in anticipation of our upcoming monthly practices of egress (fire drill/evacuation), and Secure the Building (clear the halls/lockdown). We will be proactively alerting all students and staff to these drills because it's about developing responsive preparedness and reducing anxiety during unexpected situations.
- Next week will be our first school-year Safety Team monthly meeting, so please don’t be alarmed to see first response or law enforcement vehicles at the school! On a monthly basis, we will be working collaboratively with these agencies regarding our procedures and practices. We are extremely appreciative of the valuable partnerships we are developing with CVFRS, Vermont State Police and the Shelburne Police Department.
- Please see this week’s newsletter blurb from CVSD regarding updated safety procedures in the district, including an invitation to a Parent Information Session on October 7th.
Throughout the year, we will continue to share information about our community partnerships and work regarding school safety. Our CVSD school handbook also includes specific information regarding our safety procedures.
Finally, we wish to invite family and community members seeking to actively participate in volunteer or community partnerships with CCS to a Volunteer Information Session - there are two options for interested individuals to obtain information:
- Wednesday, October 2nd from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the CCS Library; or
- Friday, October 4th from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. (PTO Q & A with the Principals/PTO meeting) - CCS Library.
We wish you all a wonderful weekend!
Kind Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH IS PICTURE DAY AT CCS!
1. Does my child have to have their picture taken? While this is of course a parent choice, individual student pictures are used to make up a "composite" class picture. If your child does not have a picture taken, then will not be in the class photo. (Reminder: 1 class photo is FREE to each student whether an order is placed or not.)
2. Do I have to purchase a picture packet? No, this service is provided to you through a contract between CCS and Beltrami. You are not required to purchase a packet.
3. What if I would like a picture packet but can not afford one? Beltrami offers a certain number of vouchers to CCS for families in need. This is confidential and vouchers can be obtained by contacting School Counselor, Betsy Lloyd, at blloyd@cvsdvt.org or 425-6613.
4. When is payment due? Payment is due at the time pictures are taken. Fill out the order form and include payment in envelope or simply order online. Note: You can pre-order your pictures online at www.bsnap.hhimagehost.com. The order form contains the password you will need.
If you have any additional questions, please email Beltrami at bsnap@beltramistudios.com.

CONSIDER BECOMING A FOSTER PARENT!
Are you ready to celebrate his first ever birthday party? Can you help a teen discover her growing independence in healthy ways? Do you and your family have a lot of patience, determination, and most of all, an abundance of love to share?
BECOME A FOSTER PARENT! The Family Services Division of the Department for Children and Families may be looking for someone just like you to provide foster care for a child. Could you offer a safe, stable, loving home for an infant, toddler, siblings, child with special needs, school-age child, teen? Can you set age-appropriate expectations and boundaries? Are you patient, kind, and resilient to the demands a child may place on you? Are you able to navigate through the many demands that being a foster parent will create in your life? If so, we would love to hear from you. Foster parenting can be challenging but it also provides one of the richest rewards you’ll ever experience.
