WHAT'S HAPPENING
Math: This week we began Topic 4. We spent two days working on our doubles facts. Students will need to be fluent in these facts so they can use the addition strategy "Doubles Plus One" (i.e. 3 + 4 = 7 because I know 3 + 3 = 6 and 1 more is 7). Pictured is one of our 4 math stations: flashcards. Read below to learn more about the other 3 stations we use daily in math workshop.
Reader's Workshop: This week we wrapped up Unit 2, which focuses on retelling and using reading strategies to solve tricky words. We celebrated by retelling a book to a partner.
Writer's Workshop: This week we began Topic 2: Writing Reviews. We are beginning this unit by writing about our collections. Students came up with a collection they have and will work on writing what things in their collection are the best and why.
Science/Social Studies: This week we dug deep in science. We have been hard at work on the scientific method and experiments. This week students selected what item they would like to put in water, vinegar and oil. They conducted the experiment and took results independently. What a great group of scientists!
