Nationwide Competition to Challenge Science Class
We are very excited to announce that Mrs. Renee's class has been awarded a scholarship to participate in the Plant the Moon Challenge. Her class will work as a team to compete with other teams around the nation to conduct experiments to determine if they can successfully plant crops on the moon. Each team will receive real soil simulant from the University of Central Florida’s CLASS Exolith Lab!
All participants with completed projects will be invited to showcase their work at a virtual symposium with NASA scientists, program executives, and other dignitaries, where Best-in-Show awards will be presented to teams with the best experiments in a variety of categories.

Several pounds of exolith were shipped to us from Florida.
Grant Funds Another Year of PreK
The Calder School was awarded a generous grant from the Idaho Community Foundation that allows us to offer free preschool to in-district 4-year-olds yet again this year.
Miss Lyssa Duran will be helping in the preschool this year and is looking forward to a fun-filled and educational school year.
New Science Lab to Benefit All Students
Maintenance workers were busy over the summer converting an old storage room in the schoolhouse into a working science lab that all school students will be able to use for experiments and other hands on activities.
Prior to the science lab, students were limited to activities that could be conducted either in their classrooms or outdoors. The new science lab allows for all students to participate in more experiments in a safe and sanitary environment complete with ventilation and a self-contained sink.
Parents' Club Seeks Members
The Calder Parents' Club is starting off planning events for the school year. The first parents' club meeting will be held in the Calder school gym on Wednesday, September 20 at 7:00. The Club is seeking volunteers to fill the roles of president, vice-president, and treasurer.

Win 1 is here!
Last year, we were able to have enough Calder students to have our own basketball team to participate in the Win1 program. We are hoping to have enough again this year.
All K-6 students are invited to play.
As registration opens, please contact Megan if your child will be participating. If we do not have enough for a team, Win1 has invited our kids to play on a St. Maries team.
Red Ribbon Week Next Month
Each year schools around the nation encourage drug free students. This year's Red Ribbon Week theme is "Be kind to your mind. Live drug free."
The Calder school will be celebrating with dress up days and fun events during the week of October 23-26. Details will be sent home with students.
