Morning Music Selection of the Week at HES!
Joyeuse Marche or Joyful March is a popular orchestral piece by the French composer Chabrier. It is his second most popular piece of music. It is also the second of two orchestral pieces first performed on 4 November 1888 in Angers, conducted by the composer. The Joyeuse Marche is dedicated to Vincent d'Indy.
Many different instruments played the march before it was arranged for an orchestra. We will listen to the orchestral version this week.
The concert at which the premiere or first performance of the Joyeuse Marche took place also included the first performance of Chabrier's Pastoral Suite.
By the time of the Paris premiere in April 1889, the title had changed to Marche Joyeuse.
