On Friday, we went to PreK and read stories to PreK partners. We took time to choose just the right books and practiced reading them all week. It was so amazing to watch the Second Graders reading to there younger buddies! It was a very special moment!
Spring Walk
On Tuesday afternoon, our class will take a Spring walk to celebrate another class reward. Please make sure your child wears sneakers on Tuesday!
Camp Creek Run Trip
This Friday we will venture to Camp Creek Run with Stoy and Jennings Second Grades. We will learn about and more! We are very excited for this trip. Please dress in comfortable clothing and wear a green or Edison shirt and sneakers. We will be outside all day so wear sunscreen and proper outerwear. Pack a disposable lunch and label it with your child’s name. Please include a disposable water bottle.
Literacy:
This week, we will find out how astronauts explore new places in the informational text Working in Space. We’ll ponder outer space further when we read “Space Poems.” The children will also explore the question, “What can you learn from headings and captions?”
Target Vocabulary: astronomy, force, orbit, repair, explored, future, space, float
Phonics Skills: words with vowel diphthongs ow (cow), ou (pound)

Writing
The students have been working diligently to read and take notes in their research folders about their chosen insect. This week, the students will continue to transfer their notes to draft. The second graders will use headings to organize their reports, choose text features to add, and write paragraphs about the areas of research. Once the drafts are complete, the students will reread their reports to revise and edit them prior to writing their final copy.

Lesson 11-2: Subtraction Number Stories with

Social Studies
This week we will learn about the past from a history map and draw maps to show places and routes. We will also learn to Identify contributions by historical figures who have influenced the community, state and nation and describe ways people honor their heroes.
