Park Terrace Elementary
December 16, 2020 Newsletter
Greetings, Park Terrace families!
It’s hard to believe, but it’s true: winter break begins next week already! Students will not have school from Wednesday, December 23, 2020, through Friday, January 1, 2021. School is back in session via Extended Flexible Learning (distance) on Monday, January 4, 2021.
As we have been in Extended Flexible Learning for a few weeks now, we were finally able to invite a very limited number of students back into the building for some additional supports this week specific to their learning needs. We are hopeful the public health situation and our own operations will allow for us to open even further in the coming weeks. We miss the kids and want to see all of them in the building.
The Governor announced today new statewide guidelines for reopening preK-6 schools, and we’re encouraged that we will be able to begin this process for our elementary students as early as January 19. See the district message that went out earlier. We look forward to updating families on these plans after winter break. In the meantime, it is critical that we continue to engage in safe practices (washing hands, wearing masks, maintaining 6 feet of distance) throughout break so we can get our kiddos back in school.
While we know being in Extended Distance Learning for all students isn’t ideal, we are still incredibly thankful for the patience and partnership of our families, as well as the dedication of our staff. This year has presented us with many challenges. We’ve learned we can do hard things, and that, as a community, we are incredibly strong and resilient. I’m excited to see what 2021 brings!
I wish you all a happy and restful break. I’m excited to say goodbye to 2020 and HELLO 2021!
Warmly,
Mona Perkins

Extended Flex Learning Families: Material pickup
Greetings,
This is our last newsletter for 2020. This year has been historical, and I can honestly say I am looking forward to what 2021 brings. Today, the Governor announced new guidance to schools for reopening preK-6. Over the coming days, our district will be working through that guidance and understanding what that means for our schools. Extended Flexible Learning will remain in place for families who choose it throughout the school year. There will much more information shared with families in the coming days.
For families that have been doing Extended Flexible Learning (distance) all fall, Wednesday, December 9, was a material pickup day. If you missed it, please call your school’s main office to arrange for an alternate to pick up student resources.
Enjoy our winter break…stay safe…stay healthy and I look forward to hearing from you in the new year!

Teachers open up about Extended Flexible Learning
We asked some of our teachers to share their experiences and observations of Extended Flexible Learning. "This year is different...and that's okay...We're in this together. We're all learning." Listen to their honest, real and vulnerable perspectives as they discuss the challenges and successes of this year.
