A Message From Our Principal

Hello Jackson families,

I hope you have enjoyed this beautiful fall weather. We are entering a season in which service will be a focus for our students.

Last month, we celebrated "Socktober" by donating socks to those in need. We also recently donated items to support the Louisiana Flood Victims. Our efforts to teach our children to serve don't just come during the holidays. We have students who read to younger students, students greet other students, students helping other students get on the bus, students collecting the school's recycling, and students making cards for our community during LEADS Time in Morning Choice. I was so impressed by our students who served at the Veterans Day breakfast on Friday morning. I see so much growth in Jackson students. Their caring attitudes are really shining through.

In addition to this, we ask that students offer help or service when a peer is in need. We are using the language of the Seven Habits to guide students in problem resolution. You may hear your child talk about how they "Seek first to understand, then to be Understood" or how they used "Think Win Win." We hope this will help students become independent problem solvers with minor issues that occur in group settings. These tools also allow a child to feel empowered to share his/her voice and teaches mutual respect.

Please ask your student to share how learning the Seven Habits has changed the way your family might approach daily situations. We are highlighting student stories in our weekly newsletters. Look for your child's story featured this year! Or, if you have a story to share, please do not hesitate to share!

I hope all of our students grow to serve others and their community. As the quote below says, "No one can do everything, but everyone can do something".

Dr. Turner
