What is Happening This Week!

  • The upcoming Fridays (2/26, 3/5, & 4/9) will be Remote Asynchronous C days. Students will use this time to learn from home and get caught up on weekly assignments.

  • Students will have a learning activity or check-in for each one of their 8 courses and ACES. This can be done anytime on Friday, in BLEND until 11:59 p.m. Attendance and course credit will be updated by TEAMS within 3 days. Students who do not engage in course work in BLEND will be marked absent for that course.

  • IMPORTANT: There will not be AISD bus transportation to school or food service. If your student still does not have access to WiFi or a device please let us know so we can issue one to go home by Thursday of this week. Please call our main phone at 512-414-3229 for any technology requests or questions you may have.

AISD will provide free meals for children and their caregivers at 25 schools from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22.

AISD will resume regular curbside meal service on Thursday, Feb. 25 with morning, midday and afternoon pick-up windows. Families may view curbside meal sites, times and more information at www.austinisd.org/openforlearning/meals.

Meal packs are free for any child younger than 19 as well as those older than 19 who utilize special education resources or who are enrolled in school to complete the requirements for a high school diploma.

Free caregiver meals, prepared by local restaurants, are also available for the adults accompanying children or with documentation of those that they are picking meals up for. Caregiver meals are made possible through funding from the City of Austin and the AISD Crisis Support Fund, established by the Austin Ed Fund.

Parents or caregivers may receive meal packs without children present by providing documentation — such as a birth certificate, student ID card, report card, or attendance record — at the point of meal service. Children do not have to be enrolled in AISD to receive meals.

Meals are served curbside, families are advised to stay in their cars and not enter buildings during meal pick up. Families who come by walking/biking/transit may still receive food outside the campuses. Curbside meals are chilled and served cold to be taken home and reheated.

Meals for children and caregivers are available until all packages are distributed.

Curbside meal sites are subject to change due to facility conditions.

2021 MUSTANG TENNIS TEAM (7th/8th Boys & Girls)

All 7th and 8th graders (boys and girls) who wish to play on our Mustang Tennis team this season must attend our first practice session.

Boys only practice on Wednesday, 3/11 at 7 am

Girls only practice on Thursday, 3/12 at 7 am

We welcome players of all ability levels – from highly skilled to those with limited experience.

Important Tennis Notes (See attached links):

  • All athletes must have a current AISD physical on file with the O. Henry Athletics office, Rank One Sign Up, and COVID-19 Waiver.

  • There is a player fee to cover all tennis-related expenses. (Cost is $50)

  • Athletes can join both Mustang Tennis and Mustang Track and other sports/teams. Tennis and Track practices and matches/meets are on different days.

Love Yourself First Week! and Sharing Love with Others-- week of March 1st

This week was originally intended to celebrate Valentines Day's week, but since school was canceled, we thought spreading LOVE is what we all need more than anything right now in our lives! We know this has been a difficult few weeks, and we want everyone to feel the love and continue spreading it within our community.

This week at O. Henry we want students to celebrate things they love about themselves and understand by how taking care of oneself first helps us be better to others around us. We also know that student's feeling good about themselves, this idea of self-worth and embracing your individuality, creates more success for them at school.

​​❤️Wear Pink on Wednesday!- Pink is the color of self-love and we encourage all students and staff to wear pink on Wednesday, March 3rd.

❤️#dearself posters- Students can be on the lookout for positive messages put up around the school to inspire them to look at themselves, their unique gifts, and why they are important and deserve love. Thank you to NJHS students for creating these inspiring messages!

Choice Sheet Presentations

Middle School Choice Sheets

Current 6th graders - World Cultures classes (Wednesday/Thursday, March 3rd and 4th)

Current 7th graders - Texas History classes (Wednesday/Thursday, March 3rd and 4th)

Your child will be given an extensive presentation on completing their choice sheet (course selections) for next year during their Social Studies class this week. Students will work on the choice sheet during the classroom presentation but will not submit it until review by parents. Please do not have your child download, complete, or submit a choice sheet until your child has their presentation from an OHMS counselor. : )

How will I turn in my choice sheet?:

During the Counselor presentation, students will get information on how to submit the choice sheet via email (after parent review) using their Google Drive on their Student Portal. There will be also be directions on top of the choice sheet as well on how to submit. If more help is needed, please see our short "how to" video on the smore page.

Exciting news O. Henry Mustangs!

The library is officially open and we are happy to begin checking out books to our O. Henry students on campus, while also serving those who are learning remotely with curbside pickup.

Beginning Monday, March 1st, we are offering curbside pickup and return of library books in front of the school from 2:30 - 3:30pm every Tuesday and Friday.

Peru Trip- June 2022

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Did you know that Ms. Dillenberger will be offering an educational student trip to Peru in June of 2022? This educational tour includes visits to Lima and Cuzco! Students will visit museums, participate in workshops, explore Machu Picchu, and much more! The trip also includes two days of service-learning supporting local communities in the Sacred Valley. Ms. Dillenberger and her travel team will be offering a virtual meeting on Thursday, February 18 at 6:00 to provide more information! Because travel is something we can’t do now, we want to make sure our students have amazing experiences ahead to look forward to when it’s safe to explore the world again!

PTA Nominations Open

The PTA Nominating Committee will slate open positions for the 2021-2022 O. Henry PTA executive board. Please nominate yourself and/or any other individual you believe is qualified to serve in one of the open positions listed below:

  • President Elect (expected to be 2022-2023 President)
  • Treasurer Elect (expected to be 2022-2023 Treasurer)
  • Secretary
  • VP of Support
  • VP of Communications

NOTE: President and Treasurer are already slated because the current President-Elect (Nikki McCormick) and Treasurer-Elect (Natalie Maloney) automatically move into these roles. VP of Fundraising Ways and Means is already slated because the current person (Delaine Teeple) in that role has chosen to return for a second year.

Email your recommendations to PTA Parliamentarian Brannon Smith by Friday, February 26. Feel free to include any relevant information that would assist the Nominating Committee. The PTA membership will vote on the proposed slate at the PTA General Meeting on April 13.
