Contentment & Gratitude:
Turning what we already have into enough
“It is not happy people who are thankful; it is thankful people who are happy.”
During the month of November, we will be discussing the ability to show contentment and gratitude in our Social Emotional Classes. The ability to show contentment and gratitude not only allows us to feel at peace with the possessions we have, but it also helps us to build strong relationships with others. Gratitude is not an instinct; it has to be taught. All young children are egocentric by nature, but there are many ways we can help them appreciate the things and people in their lives.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:
· is polite (says “please” and “thank you” when appropriate)
· is able to identify the things and people he or she is thankful for
· acknowledges the things that other people do for him/her
· is content with the possessions that he or she has currently – is not constantly seeking new/better things.
Find a time during the day where you and your children talk about the things you are grateful for. One idea is to share a “rose” and a “thorn” at dinner each night. A rose a great thing that happened during the day and a thorn is a not-so-great thing that happened. This reinforces the idea that we can be grateful even when things are not going our way.

Are you interested in being a part of our campus Watch D.O.G.S program? This is your chance!
Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other father figures who volunteer at least once each year at their child’s school. They change the culture of the school by giving students an opportunity to connect and interact with father-figures in a positive way at school. Your day on campus will consist of different activities including lunch duty, hallway monitoring and spending time in classes.
This year we are only welcoming one volunteer a day.
