Cowpoke Chronicles
November 2022 - Volume 1
Welcome from Mrs. Sweeney!
Hi Cowpokes!
October has quickly come to an end! It was a month filled with lots of fun and family! We loved getting to host our annual Trunk-or-Treat event along with our Pinky Palooza! I loved seeing all the kids dressed up and spending time together as a school community!
I want to thank everyone for their donations to our GO Pinky Campaign! All the money donated truly makes a huge difference in the work that we can do for our kids! Join us at our January Spirit Assembly to watch as I get "pied" to celebrate reaching our school goal!
In the coming weeks, we have many opportunities for families and guests to come to campus as we celebrate our Veterans and a Pinkerton Thanksgiving! Please be sure to RSVP to these events, as you don't want to miss out!
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Global Citizens for the first 9 weeks were announced at our spirit assembly on October 14 and then celebrated on October 25 with a morning reception. The bulletin board in the front hallway has a picture of each Global Citizen, along with a write-up that describes why each learner was chosen for this honor. In most of the classes, Global Citizens are chosen by their teacher primarily; in other classes, both classmates and the teacher are involved in the selection. All of our Global Citizens are chosen for modeling the IB learner profile and helping to create a better and more peaceful world!
We look forward to seeing who our second 9 weeks Global Citizens will be!
Speaking of Global Citizens and creating a better and more peaceful world, Sunday, November 13th is World Kindness Day! World Kindness Day is a day to reflect on the importance of not only being kind to others, but to yourself too!
More about the importance of teaching and encouraging kindness can be found in these links:

Notes from the Nurse
Cold and flu season is here. It is important to remember that “hand washing is the single most important means of preventing the spread of infection,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Childhood illnesses are spread easily when children are in close contact in the school setting. Any of these signs and symptoms might indicate an infections condition:
Fever (100 F or greater)
Chills
Cough
Irritability
Mouth Sores
Rash
Extreme Sleepiness
Red and/or Draining Eyes
Yellow/Green Nasal Drainage
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Please keep your child home if they have any of these symptoms and notify Nurse Lander at 214-496-6828 or rlander@coppellisd.com.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep Pinkerton learners healthy!
Every year, the Lions Club of Coppell provides holiday food baskets and toys for Christmas to those in need. If your family can benefit from this assistance, please click here to print and complete this form. Forms should be turned into Nurse Lander or Ms. Kirkley. If you need a printed copy sent home with your student, please email rlander@coppellisd.com. By completing this form you understand that this information will be shared with the Lions Club of Coppell for distribution of your food/toys. Please submit the form no later than December 9, 2022. Thank you!
From the Library with Mrs. Hunt
We have had a busy FUN October in the library! Thank you to the Families who participated in the Book Character Pumpkins… they turned out great! Check them out below!
November 1st kicks off National Family Literacy Month. Reading aloud to your child(ren) is a good family bonding activity and helps your child develop important skills such as: improved attention span, improved listening & comprehension skills, creativity & imagination, as well as, opens dialogue between parent and child. Get together with family and read a book together! Other ways to celebrate National Family Literacy Month include:
Visit the Public library and let your child get a library card.
Create a comfy spot to read together.
Explore new genres with your children. Sometimes a different topic is all it takes to get children excited about reading.
Play Scrabble, wordle, or other word games.
Join us on Tuesday, November 15th for Family Literacy Night. The Library will be open from 5:00-7:00 PM for you and your child to check out books together and make a craft.
