Learning Through the Arts Best Prepares Students for Life
BACK TO SCHOOL UPDATE
We hope this letter finds you and your loved ones healthy and enjoying the final days of summer vacation. As we are sure most of you are aware, there are a lot of changes taking place within the district this year due to COVID-19. Our number one priority as a school is to keep our students and staff safe. We all want to get back to what we love- teaching kids! The district has been working tirelessly to ensure they are making data-driven decisions to ensure safety for students and staff.
What we know as of today…Families were offered the opportunity to pick virtual instruction through CPS Elementary@Mizzou with instruction provided by CPS teachers or to return in person. The type of in-person learning will be determined based on COVID-19 cases present within our school district boundary. The district is using a tool to evaluate the number of cases per 10,000 over a 14-day period and will determine which method of in-person learning will be implemented – 5-days in-person learning, hybrid or virtual on August 24. The district also delayed the first day of school to Tuesday, September 8 for students in grades 1-12, with kindergarteners beginning on Thursday, September 10.
We look forward to seeing you! Thank you for your grace and patience this year!
With gratitude, Mrs. Coggins
Hybrid Model & Class List
We will likely begin the 2020-2021 school year utilizing the Hybrid Model adopted by the Board of Education. A decision will be made on August 24. The Hybrid Model consists of the following:
- In-Person students with last names A-K (Group 1) will attend Mondays and Tuesdays
- In-Person students with last names L-Z (Group 2) will attend Thursdays and Fridays
- Cleaning of our building will take place in between each group to facilitate safety
- Teachers will be providing instruction through Schoology on the three days students are not in class.
- Students will be receiving the same curricular instruction regardless of the group they are placed in.
Our first day of school is September 8. Group 1 will come to school September 8. They will remain home for instruction through Schoology until they return on Monday, September 14. Group 1 kindergartners will begin on Monday, September 14.
Group 2 will attend their first day on September 10. Group 2 kindergartners will begin on September 10. They will attend September 11 as well and then return to school the following week on September 17.
We will maintain the Hybrid instructional model until we are directed to change based on COVID-19 positive cases in our area.
Class List: I am currently working to ensure "even" class list for Group 1 & Group 2. Please note that you can assume your child's group according to their last name. I will reach out to you with a phone call IF your student needs to move groups due to unequal class sizes.

Meet Your Teacher Night: August 31st 4:30-7:00 pm
Online Registration, Device (iPad) Pick Up & Meet Your Teacher Night for In-Person & CPS@Mizzou
We will have a Device (ipad) Pick-Up in conjunction with Meet Your Teacher Night. At this event you and your student will move through different outdoor stations to pick up an iPad and meet your teacher.
Additionally, the district is providing families with the opportunity to complete their annual registration updates and contact information changes online through the CPS Families Portal at https://launchpad.classlink.com/cpsfamilies. Whether you are virtual (CPSElementary@Mizzou) or in person this year, we need to ensure we have updated information. Many individuals have moved, changed jobs, phone numbers or e-mails during this time away from school. It is important that we have your updated contact information!
To receive your device and/or your child’s teacher assignment, we will need completed Health Summary Information, Updated Emergency Information and the Virtual Learning FERPA Consent Form (this can be done online or at device pick-up).
Below are directions on how to complete the annual ONLINE REGISTRATION updates through the CPS Families Portal.

MASKS AT SCHOOL?
Everyone who enters our school is asked to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing. Please begin to prepare students for wearing a mask by allowing them to practice at home prior to the start of school. We are making plans for mask breaks during various times throughout the day. We plan to provide lanyards for students to attach masks to so they can hold them even when they are not required to have them on. We will continue to follow recommended health department guidelines to ensure safety at school. The district has prepared a video on wearing masks and hygiene that is helpful for families: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EC-HJuXAnQ&feature=youtu.be
