The next meeting is Tuesday, October 3 from 4 - 5, in room G307. We'll have a short informational session for the first half (questions welcome), and begin setting up our personal website in the second half. HHS GIRLS LACROSSE Want to learn about the fastest growing sport for girls in the US? The Hoover High Girl's Lacrosse team is training every Thursday at Prince of Peace from 5:00 - 7:00 through Oct 26. This is an open invitation and is a great way to be introduced to lacrosse, "the fastest sport played on two feet"! The HHS Girl's Lacrosse team is looking for new players for the upcoming spring season to help build on the success from their semifinal appearance last spring. HHS TESTING INFORMATION
October 18th
All sophomores will take the PreACT. This is a great opportunity for students to practice their academic and test taking-skills in preparation for the ACT. Subtests: English, Math, Reading and Science.
All Juniors will take a Mock ACT test. This will be administered at Hoover High School. This will be a full-length practice ACT test to prepare 11th grade students for the statewide ACT test given in the spring. Data from this test will be used to help 11th graders and teachers prepare for the ACT.
Seniors who have not met a College and Career Readiness benchmark will take the ACT WorkKeys. This test measures foundational skills required for success in the workplace and helps measure the workplace skills that can affect job performance. Subtests: Applied Math, Graphic Literacy and Workplace Documents. Additionally, scoring at a Silver level or above will qualify seniors for the College and Career readiness portion of the Senior Exam Exemption Policy.
**Elearning Day for 9th grade students and seniors who have already met a CCRI.**
October 25th
Sophomores and Juniors who have registered and paid for the PSAT will test.
Registration for this test is now closed.
**Regular school day for all students not testing.**
March 12th
All juniors will take the ACT with Writing. The ACT with Writing is a standardized test used for college admissions and some scholarships. The state of Alabama uses this test to measure college readiness. Subtests: English, Math, Reading, Science and Writing.
Additionally, certain scores will qualify seniors for the College and Career readiness portion of the Senior Exam Exemption Policy.

PARKING FOR CLASS OF 2026 - Students who are in the Class of 2026 can now register for parking by following the guidelines listed below. A student must have all of the required information in order to obtain a spot for the 2023-24 school year.
Parking is first come, first serve and students must have a valid Driver’s License.
The parking registration link will be posted in your Grade Level Classroom Page.
Each student driver must complete the Parking Registration Form by using their school email account. Accounts outside of Hoover City Schools will not be accepted. To complete the form you will need the following information: Tag #, Driver’s License #, Vehicle Make & Model.
Payments can be made on My School Fees or with cash or a check to the bookkeeper
In order to pick-up the parking decal, students must bring their driver’s license and receipt showing the parking fee.
NURSES INFORMATION
Parents, if your student tests positive for COVID, you may refer to your physician for guidelines.
Hoover City Schools policy states students need to remain at home if they have a temperature of 100
degrees or higher. They must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication in order to return to school.
Parents, please consider supplying the health room with non-expired over the counter medication for headache, menstrual, stomach and other pains that your student may have while at school. This will allow the nurses to care for your child and keep them at school. An adult may bring medication to the nurses at any time M-F 7:30-3:45.
For prescription medication, a physician will need to sign a prescriber form. The form may be found on HCS website ( Departments-Health-Forms-Parent/prescriber/authorization)
FLU SHOT INFORMATION (STUDENTS ONLY)
The flu vaccine will be offered to only students on October 11th. Forms are being sent home next week. The form must be fully completed in order to receive a vaccine. Insurance information (if applicable) must be complete. There will be no charge for this vaccine, with or without insurance. This vaccine is not offered to students with PEEHIP insurance. The vaccine will only be offered in injection form. Forms may be turned in to the drop box located in the front lobby and the cafeteria anytime prior to the day of the clinic.
If your child attends RC3, they will need to turn in the Flu Form and receive the vaccine from the school where the form was given to them.
For virtual students wishing to get a flu vaccine, please complete the Flu Form and email to gstoudenmire@hoover.k12.al.us by October 12th. You will come to the school at 10:00am and enter through the front entrance. If you have any questions, please call 205-439-1330 or 205-439-1350

BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM TRYOUTS - Any NEW student to Hoover High School that is interested in trying out for the Boys Basketball team for this year can tryout before school on Monday and Tuesday (October 16-17) at 7:00 am. All students must have a current physical on file and insurance card loaded to Dragonfly. Please see Coach Hosmer or Coach Ware for any questions. For any students that were here in the spring that wish to tryout, please see Coach Hosmer or Coach Ware in the basketball office.
BOYS SOCCER TRYOUTS will be held October 16-20. Any boys interested in trying out should see Coach Cowley in room C235 to receive an information form. You must have an up-to-date physical on file to participate.

LUNCH ACCOUNTS - 2023-24 Lunch Schedule
To replenish your child’s lunch account, please send cash or check with your student to pay in the lunchroom, or a secure drop box for lunch payments is located in the Front Lobby. You may also pay online at myschoolbucks.com
STUDENT DELIVERIES - Please remind your student to have all belongings needed for the school day before leaving home. The Front Desk cannot accept personal belongings for students.
ATTENDANCE REMINDERS - .
Students will be called for check out between classes only. We will not call a student during instructional time.
Students that drive to school need to be checked out before leaving campus.
For your convenience - Checkouts may be arranged ahead of time. This must be done at the school, in person, by a person (with ID) on the contact list. Prearranged checkouts will be accepted days/weeks ahead to accommodate your student.
Students may not check out with a note or phone call.
Students may check out with an email from the parent to hhsattendance@hoover.k12.al.us . The email must be received by 8:00 am the day of check out. A copy of the parent’s driver’s license must be attached. The email must include the student’s first and last name, date and time of check out, the reason for check out and a parent signature. The student will be responsible for picking up the check out slip/pass before leaving campus.
Students may check themselves IN anytime. A check in without a proper parent note or doctor note will be entered as unexcused.
All Notes must be turned in within 3 days of the absence – including doctor notes. Parent notes require a parent signature.
We will accept paper notes or you may email the note to hhsattendance@hoover.k12.al.us. If your student attends RC3, this note will also need to be emailed to rc3main@hoover.k12.al.us
Anticipated Absence Forms are available at the Attendance Desk.
STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP - Student Drop Off and Pick Up is located in the front of the school. No other locations are allowed on campus or in nearby neighborhoods. Students being dropped off/picked up in locations that are not permissible will be assigned discipline.

NO OUTSIDE FOOD ALLOWED ON CAMPUS - As a reminder, students are not allowed to bring food into school from restaurants. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
BUS INFORMATION - Visit our Transportation webpage to see our Web Query in which you can input your home address. When you enter your home address, your current bus stop information will be displayed. If the results do not show a bus stop for your home address fill out a “TRANSPORTATION REQUEST” form so that a bus stop can be created for your student. Please read this letter which outlines expectations and discipline for bus riders.
