Thank you for coming to our Genius Hour Showcase, we appreciate the support for our staff and students! Our next Genius Hour session will start on January 10th. The students are in the process of selecting their top 4 choices and will know before we leave for Winter Break which group they are in.
Our food drive for Cypress Assistance Ministries was a huge success. Thank you for making a difference for those in need in our community!
Our beloved custodian, Mr. Brown will be retiring on December 20th. We will have a big party to celebrate him in May but if your child would like to make him a card to give to him before Dec. 20th, I know he would love it. He has 30 years as a custodian and more than 20 of those years have been at Matzke. He has made a huge difference in so many lives and we are thankful that Matzke was a part of it.
¡Gracias!

Bite Size Behavior Tips from our Behavior Interventionist, Tracy Klare
Teaching the Art of Empathy
When we teach kids how to give, we are teaching them how to care for others. We are also teaching them gratitude, compassion, empathy, and love. Of all the skills we teach kids at home and school, these four ensure that the society we live in can become a better place.
- Building Empathy as a foundation of Giving
- Teach your kids how to share. Sharing is a form of generosity, and being generous leads to a connection with others. Being able to form a relationship with the people around us builds our empathy skills.
- Have your child make a point and a plan to share with someone in their family , then branch out to share with a friend, and then share with someone they don't know like donating clothes or toys to a charity.
- Empathy-being able to understand someone else's point of view
- Empathy is one of the most important skills a person can develop. Empathy fuels compassion and positive social interaction.
- When we can relate to one another, our words and our actions become kinder, gentler, and wiser.
- Building a Giving Mindset
- Before you build your child's 'giving mindset', teach and show them that we all need help at some point in our lives. Tell them a story of when someone helped you or touched your heart when they gave something to you.
- Teach the philosophy "You get what you give"- when you give to others, with patience, it will come back to you in some way.
- If we want more kindness in the world, it starts with us...we need to just be kind to one another.
Instructional Information from our Instructional Specialists!
Joke of the week:
Q: Why does everybody like Frosty the Snowman?
A: Because he is so cool!
Math Tip:
Practice estimating with your child by thinking about what would be reasonable. For example, how long will it take us to drive to the store? Or, how many beans are in the jar?
Reading/ Writing Tip:
Take turns reading a few pages from a book with your child. Having an adult model helps improve a child's fluency.
