It's about that time! I'm always super excited when it comes to starting a new school year! And I'm sure many homes are just like mine when talking about going back to school--groans from the kids, smiles (and maybe a groan or two) from the parents! Summer is still in full-swing, but next week we turn our July calendar to August I want to share a few important details with you while you are still soaking up the summer sun!

On-line Registration and Parent Packet Pick-up

Who will your child's teacher be? Find out on Tuesday, July 30 from 7:30-5:00 during Parent Packet-Pickup! All students who have completed on-line registration will receive letters from his/her classroom teacher and a transportation confirmation form.


Our technology department will be on-hand during this time to help anyone who needs assistance with registration. Students must be registered before receiving their letters.

Open House Dates

August 7

  • Early Childhood Connection/Open House for ECSE, Preschool, PreK and Kindergarten, 6:00 PM

August 13

  • 1st through 3rd Open House, 4:00-6:00PM

School Supplies

School supply lists have been sent to Wal-Mart and Target in Washington, and to the Wal-Mart in Owensville and Warrenton. Dollar General in Hermann also has a copy of our supply list!

Student Handbook/Procedure Guide

Please see the attached Elementary Student Handbook. This handbook is a guide to our practices and procedures at HES. The handbook also discusses important dates, building-wide behavior expectations, and other important items for parents. Should you have any questions about our procedures and/or practices, please contact the office.

Every Minute Counts!

Our school day will begin at 7:50. Students will be late at 7:55 and will need to be signed in. Please plan accordingly because every minute counts!

Morning Drop-Off and Afternoon Pick-up Procedure

Our morning drop off procedure will look just a bit different. First, please note that there will be no parking on the south side (school side) of 7th Street from 7:30-8:30 and 2:45-3:30 each day we are in session. If you need to stop your vehicle, please park on the opposite side of the street. We will have some staff members on hand to help students out of cars. We hope to unload 3 cars at a time along the curb at our front entrance for students in PreK through 3rd grade. Parents in our ECSE program or our 3-year-old preschool will be asked to unload at the lower entrance.


Parents will be welcomed to walk children into school on Thursday, August 15 and Friday, August 16. After, we ask all parents to drop children off at the front door and not enter the building without being buzzed in from the office. School staff will greet you at the door and help your child to his/her classroom. This effort is to ensure the safety of our students, which is our number one priority.


Our dismissal procedure will remain the same as in previous years. Buses will load, and then student pick-ups will load at the shelter along 8th St. Walkers will be held inside the building with teacher supervision until all pick-up traffic has cleared the area. Again, walkers will be dismissed last.
