Valentine's Day
Behavior
One mother supports her child's efforts by giving her a sticker for her chart for each smiley face received. When their agreed upon goal has been met, she gets a treat (agreed upon in advance).
This is a really positive way to support your child in developing and maintaining good learning behaviors at school. I have even started doing this with my youngest son. Some of the rewards I give him for 5 smiley faces are: a playdate with a chosen friend; watching a movie together; a trip to his favorite park; family game night (and he gets to pick the games); going to Wandering Swordsman on Sunday afternoons.
Snack Cupboard calling!
Ms. Fox and Ms. Theresa
We are privileged to get to work with your children this year. We want them to be successful in all ways, so please call or email me anytime to discuss any issues or ask questions. It takes a village to raise a child, please let us be a trusted part of your village!

A Look at Our Week
We will also be doing many Valentine activities in Math too, in addition to reading books of that theme in Guided Reading and on the iPad. Each week your child gets to listen to reading on the iPad, using a program called "epic!" We have recently got headphones, thanks to the generous support from the PTO. We have also recently received a webcam, again courtesy of a PTO grant, that will enable us to go on virtual field trips.
Speaking of Field Trips, please sign and return a field trip permission form coming home this week in folders. We will be having a Science Discovery Field Trip, within the Media Center, from a visiting organization. More details to come....
Our writing workshop focus for this quarter is how to research and write informational pieces. This week, I am combining our "Leader In Me" work on personal and community leadership with our writing objectives, by researching the life of Dr. Martin Luther King. At the end of the week, ask your child who Martin Luther King was, and why he is an example of a great leader.
