- In 1861 while under British rule, India introduced section 377 in the penal code which criminalized sexual activities that were “against the order of nature”. This act against nature means any deviation of the traditional forms of sex and gender (Jigour).
- Before September 2002, there was no legal prohibition against adoptions by individual lesbian or gay people, but adoptions by same-sex couple were strictly prohibited(Wendy)
- In the soviet union, the morality that was defined previously in orthodox Christianity was of no use, but that did not stop Communist leader Joseph Stalin from criminalizing homosexuality in 1933(Jigour).
