Hydroelectricity
How does hydroelectricity affect humans? By Hannah Evans
The Power Found in Water
The largest producers of the world's hydroelectric power are China, Canada, Brazil, the United States and Russia.
Why Water? Because its free, renewable, non-polluting, and plenty of it.
Positive Affects on Humans
People who work for the hydroelectricity companies make a lot of money by building dams to help the water flow. Dams help people who depend on the flow of water, by blocking a section of the water and the water starts to flow faster in the opposite direction.
As Canadians, 60% of our power comes from hydroelectricity. Humans get a lot from hydroelectricity, from powering an electrical car to blow drying our hair.
Negative Affects on Humans
When a dam is built it stops the water from flowing on the other side, which is killing many of the fish because lack of water to live in. Did you know there are about 50 thousand dams in the whole world? There has been 173 dam failures and 587 "incidents".
