WEEK OF LOVE DRESS UP WEEK SEMANA DEL CARIÑO
Mindfulness Practices of the Week: The Power of YET (Growth Mindset Strategy)/Actividad de la semana: El poder de la palabra todavía
Throughout the week, discuss reframing things we cannot do as “things we cannot do YET”. Listen to students who make comments that demonstrate a fixed mindset and encourage them to reframe their thinking using the power of the word YET. Help them follow up their reframing with ideas for how they can grow in that area.
Example: “I failed my math test” vs. “I am not passing math YET. “
Growth Idea: “I can correct my mistakes and learn from them.”
Another Example: “I can’t do chin-ups" vs. “I cannot do chin-ups YET. “
Growth idea: “I can keep trying each week until I grow strong enough.”
One more example: “I have not met my growth goal” vs. “I have not met my growth goal YET.”
Growth Idea: “I will keep practicing until I reach my goal!”
FAMILY ACTIVITY: Encourage students to share something they are not feeling confident with --- academic skills or personal skills, etc.- and help them reframe it as a NOT YET. Listen for ways to encourage each other to think with a growth mindset and think about how you can continue to work to get better. Post your “NOT YET” statements on Twitter to share your growth mindset with us! #EdgewoodUnited and @LasPalmasEISD
Un ejemplo más: “No he alcanzado mi objetivo” y “Todavía no he alcanzado mi objetivo”.
