After getting her bachelors of science in telecommunications engineering from Jilin University, Tianyun Gao was accepted to the University of Bridgeport's electrical engineering, alternative energy, and distributed system and network security programs. While in attendance from 2008 to 2010, Tianyun Gao gained valuable research experience that has helped shape her future in programming and engineering.
Tianyun Gao's research experience includes the analysis of income and the risk that is involved into a financial investment process. She was able to create practical designs of a FIR filter in MATLAB and C++. She was also able to gain experience working with green buildings utilizing hydrogen and solar energy. She also contributed to the design of smart power grid systems that enabled the efficient use of energy sources and contributed to energy harvesting by using a patch array for wireless energy sensors.
As a part of the University of Bridgeport's distributed system and network security program, Tianyun Gao was able to contribute to a cross-layer design for wireless networks. She created an ad hoc network-transfer-mode-switcher that enabled her to contribute to the creation of an enforcement system architecture. Her work provided security for the interconnection of social network applications. This research and experience has allowed her to become efficient in policy-based security control for social networking and creating trust to reduce malicious behavior in MANET.
Tianyun Gao has also had the opportunity to represent the University of Bridgeport during the Hydrogen Education Foundation's annual Hydrogen Student Design Contest. She placed 6th in the United States with a team of disciplinarily diverse students, working on projects that tested the creativity and knowledge of hydrogen energy in the areas of engineering, economics, environmental science, business, and marketing.
Tianyun Gao: Jilin University
Tianyun Gao began her advanced education in 2003 at Jilin University, one of the most recognized and prestigious Chinese universities established. She received her Bachelor of Science in telecommunications engineering and graduated with a grade point average of 3.33.
During her time at Jilin University, Tianyun Gao took a number of courses that allowed her to become the skilled professional she is today. Among those courses are several advanced mathematics that specialized in calculus, multi-variable calculus, advanced probability, and complex variable functions. These courses allowed Tianyun Gao to have the skills to become familiar with the mechanics and mathematics of computer fundamentals and programming.
Alongside her intensive mathematics courses, Tianyun Gao also took the numerous computer science, programming, and engineering courses required to receive her telecommunications engineering degree. Tianyun Gao: Canon USA
Soon after her time with NYU, Tianyun Gao began working with Canon USA in New York during March of 2012. She maintained the same title of Business System Analyst from her prior gig, but her responsibility increased in tandem with her experience level increasing as well. Her duties consisted of the review and reproduction of various system and programming code, developing new systems for more efficient data transfer, creating new systems for better cataloguing, and producing shell scripting that created automatic system services..
Tianyun Gao used her knowledge of reviewing and reproducing ASP code and created a web application that could be used by business customers of Canon to view and register product model numbers and disclosure via the Mercury system. She also developed back-end Mercury systems through the use of C++ and Pro*C. Her work allowed efficient data transfer between the Canon America's Mercury system and the Canon Inc. Master Mercury system in Japan.
Tianyun Gao also developed an Oracle database using the PLSQL of the Mercury system that catalogued products with detailed item and model number information that could be transferred between the Mercury system and other Canon systems. Alongside these developments, Tianyun Gao produced Unix bash/corn shell scripts that allowed back-end process operation, system checking, and the scheduling of various auto-system jobs. Lastly, Tianyun Gao was successfully able to carry out batch data loading through the use of the Perl programming language that also allowed for the system to automatically conduct performance tuning and reporting on its own.
Tianyun Gao: New York University Langone Medical Center
After her time at the Bank of Communications, Tianyun Gao began working for New York University at the Langone Medical Center during the summer season of 2011 in New York City. Tianyun Gao's official title was Business System Analyst and her duties consisted of web development, reviewing and reproducing reports, and program debugging.
Tianyun Gao used her extensive knowledge of the JAVA programming language and implemented 52 metric modules that aided in the development of the online claims and invoice system that was, and still is used by 29 New York University medical school departments. Although the contest designs are concepts when submitted, the Grand Prize winning teams from the two years before Tianyun Gao was involved each attracted the funding necessary for actual development and implementation. Those contest designs were for a new hydrogen fueling station and power park, respectively. The station designed in 2004 had its grand opening at Humboldt State University in California on September 9, 2008. The winning design in 2008, which included a back-up and portable power system powered by hydrogen for airports, generated a great deal of interest for implementation at the Columbia International Airport in Columbia, South Carolina.

Tianyun Gao says that some programmers might be better off learning Haskell, or some other functional programming language. She says it is going to be faster for developing things, and will also take less time getting accustomed to, for those not already programming in procedural languages. Haskell also looks more like the formulas most programmers are already used to. She says it may take longer to execute some programmes and will also use more memory. But it has the advantage of being really object oriented, supporting lambda calculus and using infinite precision and sized numbers by standard.
