Tianyun Gao: All About the Cloud

Tianyun Gao is a business systems analyst who is currently working for Cloudeeva, a cloud technology company that is poised to become a global leader in cloud computing.

At Cloudeeva, Tianyun Gao has reproduced Oracle schema objects includes tables, temporary tables, views, materialized views, indexes, triggers, procedures, functions, packages based on customer requirement and system upgrade.

She has also queried real-time data using complex queries on Oracle and MSSQL server databases to provide meter read data, information to manage network and web reporting, and used UNIX shell scripting to do a variety of tasks.

As Tianyun Gao knows, Cloudeeva's information technologies solutions cover cloud computing, social media, mobility, infrastructure management, big data, business intelligence and data warehousing segments. As a Cloudeeva business analyst, she is a vital link between the firm's information technology capabilities and its business objectives; she is a skilled business analyst who makes an important contribution to the profitability of the company.

Tianyun Gao understands that many people are unsure of just what the cloud is. The term is increasingly common. She says that in the simplest terms, cloud computing means storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet, instead of the historically conventional way of storing and accessing it on a computer's hard drive.

The cloud, she says, is really just a metaphor for the Internet. Computer applications have always been complicated and expensive, especially business applications. But Tianyun Gao says that with cloud computing, users can avoid the headaches because they aren't managing hardware and software because it's in the cloud. The shared infrastructure means it works like a utility. Users only pay for what they need, upgrades are automatic, and scaling up or down is easy.

Tianyun Gao: The Hydrogen Student Design Contest

Tianyun Gao is a business systems analyst who currently works for Cloudeeva, a New Jersey-based cloud computing company.

Tianyun Gao earned a degree from the University of Bridgeport, where she studied Electrical Engineering, Alternative Energy, Distributed Systems, and Network Security. During the 2008-2009 school year, she distinguished herself as a member of a University of Bridgeport team that took sixth place in the National Hydrogen Student Design contest. The contest challenges multi-disciplinary teams of university students to apply their creativity and academic skills in the areas of design, engineering, economics, environmental science, business and marketing to the hydrogen and fuel cell industries.

As Tianyun Gao knows, the Hydrogen Student Design Contest has existed now for ten years. It is open to undergraduate and graduate students from universities around the world, and submissions are evaluated by a diverse panel of judges that include industry representatives and officials from the United States Department of Energy.

Although the contest designs are concepts when submitted, the Grand Prize winning teams from the two years before Tianyun Gao was involved each attracted the funding necessary for actual development and implementation. Those contest designs were for a new hydrogen fueling station and power park, respectively. The station designed in 2004 had its grand opening at Humboldt State University in California on September 9, 2008. The winning design in 2008, which included a back-up and portable power system powered by hydrogen for airports, generated a great deal of interest for implementation at the Columbia International Airport in Columbia, South Carolina.

Tianyun Gao: C++, Java, and Haskell

Tianyun Gao is a business system analyst who currently works at Cloudeeva, a cloud technology company based in New Jersey. She has also been a software engineer at Cloudeeva, where she reviewed and reproduced online C# reports, and was involved in the upgrade of a back-end intra-net management system using C++ and an Oracle database.

C++, as Tianyun Ga knows, is a procedural programming language that supports object-oriented programming, meta-programming and lambda calculus. Java is a procedural programming language which supports object-oriented programming.

Tianyun Gao says that was designed for systems programming, with performance, efficiency and flexibility of use as its design requirements. C++ has three very large advantages over Java. It is much faster, does not take up nearly as much memory, and has a fast startup time. Both C++ and Java support object-oriented programming, but neither, she says, are proper object-oriented programming languages. In any case, Tianyun Gao says that having a purely object-oriented programming language, sometimes is more of a difficulty than an advantage.

Tianyun Gao says that some programmers might be better off learning Haskell, or some other functional programming language. She says it is going to be faster for developing things, and will also take less time getting accustomed to, for those not already programming in procedural languages. Haskell also looks more like the formulas most programmers are already used to. She says it may take longer to execute some programmes and will also use more memory. But it has the advantage of being really object oriented, supporting lambda calculus and using infinite precision and sized numbers by standard.
