Happy Spring Break!

We hope that you find some time to rest and relax over the next week! You deserve a break from our focused and purposeful work related to teaching and learning. We appreciate each and every one of you and all that you do to make Meadowbrook the best place to be. Enjoy!

Attendance Celebrations!

It is essential to continue to stress the importance of being at school. We would like to celebrate our 98% attendance rooms and higher: Jones, T. Davis, A. Davis, and York!

Superhero Teacher!

Congratulations Mrs. Fogel! Thanks for all you do in supporting our Roadrunner learners.

Every minute counts!

Let's make sure we are using every available minute for instructing and preparing students for our spring assessments. This is a great time to rethink our re-teaching blocks and ensure they are focused on standards of high priority. It is also a great time to provide additional practice during Morning Work.

Grade Cards!

Due 3/25/15

Changes 3/26/15

Send home 3/31/15

Please see attachment: report card checklist for further procedures and expectations.

Coaches/Mentors/Cheerleaders!

If you haven't already done so, now would be a great time to check-in on the students you have been cheering on throughout the year. Check-out the calendar dates below to see our upcoming assessments.

XLT Enrollment

All students are welcome to attend XLT. You will be receiving enrollment forms to send home in report card envelopes after Spring Break. Attached is a generic note to send home to parents stating that you are recommending that their child attend XLT. I highly recommend a call home if you think this will come as a surprise to parents. All students that attend XLT will be in a reading and a math class. Students recommended will be grouped together and (hopefully) have a smaller class size. Teachers will teach using the workshop model. Those students not recommended will be in enrichment reading and math classes. Unfortunately we can’t place a student in enrichment math and not reading-it has to be the same for both reading and math. We need a list of all students (please send to Janet by Friday, March 13th) that you are recommending XLT for reading and math. This is an important step as Janet will be responsible for checking a box that will indicate on the report card the recommendation for XLT.

Questions-please ask!

Early Release Sessions

After reviewing our Early Release survey results, BLT has decided to move forward with a three week session beginning March 26th. See attached schedule.

Supervision

Classroom teachers please make sure you are picking up students from their ENCORE class, lunch, and recess in a timely manner. ENCORE teachers, If you have students waiting for their classroom teacher to take them back to their room, please do not leave them unattended. It is important to maintain student supervision at all times in the building.

Upcoming Assessments

Math Benchmark #3 (3/9 - 3/27)

ELA Benchmark #4 (3/30 - 4/10)

1st Grade, Unit 6 End of Unit Assessment (3/13)

3rd Grade, Unit 6 End of Unit Assessment (3/13)

4th Grade, Unit 6 End of Unit Assessment (3/13)

4th Grade, On Demand (3/9 & 3/10)

Substitutes and Technology

PLEASE do not leave movies/SmartBoard activities for subs. The student computers are not set up to work on the SmartBoard, so in order to make them work a change has to be made in system preferences.

MACs

In order for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to prepare for the on-line MAP assessment, they are going to need a lot of practice on the MACs. With that being said, we will most likely be pulling K, 1, 2 grade carts for the month of April and the first couple of weeks of May, as needed. We appreciate everyone's flexibility!

Classroom Walk Through Focus

For the next several weeks we will focus on independent work time and conferring.

What are students working on during their independent practice time? Is it relevant to learning targets and student goals? Are students reading for the majority of time or practicing assignments on teacher selected texts? Do students have choice in their reading and writing? Are you setting goals mutually with students?

Building Hours over Spring Break

Here are the hours the building will be open:

Monday -Thursday 7:30am-6pm (Closed on Friday)

REMEMBER: If you enter the building when Mr. Rubbio isn't here, the alarm will sound and the police will be dispatched. Your badge will let you in, so don't let that fool you! The alarm will go off and police will arrive (happened at several buildings during Winter Break).

SWAG

Buildings are taking turns presenting their SWAG to the Board of Education (during monthly BOE meetings). Amanda has viewed a couple presentations and shared that presenters are showing a movie (using pictures from the building). It’s truly an opportunity to share all the great things that are happening at Meadowbrook! We think our turn will be next year, so we want to plan ahead. Amanda is going to put a folder (SWAG) on the shared drive for everyone to include pictures….academic, bulletin boards, special events, etc. This will make things easier when it’s our turn to present our Roadrunner SWAG!
