School Rules: Be Safe. Be Responsible. Be Respectful.
School Hours: 7:35am-2:50pm
From the Principal
Our school year is really rolling now. Our students and staff have settled into a great learning routine after our smooth start this year. We are finishing up our first round of assessments which will help our teachers adjust instruction for each student, giving us reading and math levels as well as knowledge of how students are learning our first skills taught in each content area. Parents can help support their child at home by asking questions about the school day each evening. Questions should be open-ended and varied each day so the conversations don't become routine. Some ideas for starting those daily conversations are below. Other routines at home can be a great support of you child, as well! Our students need a consistent bedtime providing enough sleep, plenty of playtime and plenty of reading at home!
I still need of a few volunteers. Please consider these opportunities, tell a friend about them and ask if you have any questions!
1. CAAC Members - Parents, Business Representatives and Community Members are needed to join our Campus Academic Advisory Committee. This group guides and monitors the progress of our campus priorities, goals and budget. We meet 4 times per year after school. Tell you friends about this one! Contact Amy Quintana by email or call the school if you are interested.
2. SHAC Parent - Student Health Advisory Committee - This is a district level committee that also meets a few times each year to discuss initiatives and policies to promote wellness. Contact Amy Quintana by email or call the school if you are interested.
Questions for Great Conversations with Your Child
- What book did your teacher read out loud today? What was the story about?
- Who did you play with at recess today?
- What did you learn about in Science?
- What math strategies did you try today?
- Which specials class (Art, Music, PE) did you go to today? What did you do there?
- Did you go to the library? What books did you see?
I hope to see you at school sometime soon,
Christi

A+FCU is proud to partner with Riojas Elementary for the Green Apple Savings Club. With this unique program, kids learn about saving and finance while having fun and getting hands-on experience with financial transactions. Green Apple members make deposits at school, receive small giveaways, and see their money grow. The Green Apple Program consists of more than just Deposit Days though; it’s a true partnership between a school and A+FCU to give students the tools and experience they need to learn smart money management.

Changes In Going Home
If you are changing the way your child goes home, you must communicate that to the front office staff by stopping by the office or calling the office. Please do not send an email. Our teachers are busy teaching and helping students and often do not check their email throughout the day. The office communicates changes to our staff close to the end of the school day, but all changes must be reported to the office before 1pm. This helps us ensure a safe dismissal for all students.
