Registration at FMS
FMS Counseling Department: Mrs. Burfield, Mrs. Horstmeier and Ms. Jo
Needing to see the school counselor?
Students needing to access the counselor's office can submit a form from their chrome books by clicking on the apps button. This form comes only to the counselor's. 6th graders will learn how to use this app on Tuesday, August 27th when counselors meet with them through their ELA classrooms. You can also ask your teacher for help. If you can't locate the form you can also shoot your school counselor an email. Obviously if there is an emergency, students will be sent to the Counselors Office immediately. This is just a great way to help students stay in the classroom for instruction time .
Here are a few ways you can reach out to us in the FMS Counseling Office:
Mrs. Horstmeier works with students with a last name starting with an A-J and can be reached at shorstmeier@fulton58.org and Mrs. Burfield works with students with a last name starting with a K-Z and can be reached at cburfield@fulton58.org.
Ms. Jo is the Counseling Office secretary and can be reached at jwilliamson@fulton58.org.
Counseling Office phone number is 573-590-8208

AFTER SCHOOL CHOIR: What a fantastic rehearsal this week! I'm truly proud of our after school choir for being so focused!
Music 6: We are reviewing rests, because we totally rocked notes! I'm so proud of our 6th graders for thoroughly learning about notes! We will wrap up our notation objective this week by completing a study of rests. We are also exploring ROCK music! We have been learning about Jimi Hendrix, and the early days of rock and roll as a genre of music.
Arts Alive: This week we are watching and analyzing the Disney movie version of Into the Woods. This is an opportunity for our students to consider the journey of the characters they are portraying. Students have been very focused in music rehearsal. Their continued focus and work on memorization will make our staging process a piece of cake! Keep it up, Arts Alive!
Choir: I'm truly proud of these students and their hard work! We will attend Battle High School Music Festival on Monday, March 9th. More information to come.
CONCERT ATTIRE: khaki pants, black shoes, and a black choir polo shirt. If you do not have one, you may purchase one from me for $15. These polos are the same as those worn by FMS choirs for the past several years. Students may certainly borrow or buy one from a student who was in FMS choirs and no longer needs the polo.

Our next concert is Tuesday, March 10! It's our annual Parade of Bands concert, and will take place in the FHS gym. All bands, from grade 6 to the high school Symphonic Band will perform. The concert starts at 7:00 pm and will finish shortly after 8:00 pm. Need a place to eat before the concert? The Band Boosters will be selling selling baked ziti, salad, and bread starting at 5:00. Our fundraiser items will also be ready for pickup before the concert. The concert is free, but we do ask for donations!
For anyone who wants help after school, email Ms. Neudecker and she work out a time to meet!
6th Grade Band: Sixth grade is constantly learning new things on their instruments and moving on to bigger and better music. We have begun work on the specific pieces we will be playing for the Parade of Bands Concert. The students are beginning to read longer pieces with more intricate part writing.
7th Grade Band: 7th grade is continuing to learn their solos and sight reading their new music. The band is also beginning to improve on their concert music. I hope you are enjoying "The Syncopated Clock" and "Prometheus Overture."
8th Grade Band: 8th graders are performing at CMU today! They've put in a lot of time, worked hard during rehearsals, and even came in for an extra rehearsal on Wednesday. I am very proud of their hard work!
Guitar Classes: Both guitar classes are continuing to learn standard notation which is how to read the notes on a staff. Eighth grade knows all six strings and is working on accidentals and Seventh Grade knows five strings.
Please consider following me on Twitter @MrT_FPSBands. I will be providing a daily playlist which your students will hear when they enter the room. You may also email me at chthomas@fulton58.org.

What's happening in the Art Room!
6th Grade:
We will be starting our next objective, and working on our torn paper animals where students will simplistically draw profile views of their animal of choice. this can include mythical creatures as well. From here they will utilize the torn paper method we will learn in class, and create a low relief using color separation for lines and details in their work. they will choose colors for background and foreground to create and interesting work.
7th Grade Semester:
We are continuing our work from our first objective ELO2: Students will use subject matter and themes in art. Students will be working on their graffiti walls and learning more about text, adding drop shadows as well as developing their style. Students will present their first or last name and create a wall where the image will have contrast from light to bold. this is a project that depends on structure and creativeness, as well as some imagination.
7th Grade All year.
Students will continue working towards our objective ELO 1: students will select and apply media techniques and processes. Students will be starting our “Old Barn” project, and learning about value and line on a much deeper level. This project takes several weeks.
We will finish these up in a this week, and shift into creating 3d models of our barns or similar structures.
8th Grade all year:
Students will finish work on Coat of Arms We also began working on Abstract painting, where they will study various works of abstract art, and create a unique painting using the concepts they learned. This will take several weeks and it will be a slow process. They learned about the different varieties of abstract art like Cubism and Expressionism. they are going to work in several combined elements and create a balanced and interesting composition. These should be really fun!
8th Grade Semester:
Students will continue this week with our second objective ELO4. Students will examine artworks and bring them to the present time. We will explore the world around us with MEMES and parodies and look at Grant Wood's American Gothic as a staging area. Students will recreate Grant Wood's painting into a drawing that modernizes it, and places it into our current times or they may choose to parody it.
As always, If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate in contacting me.
Thank you for your continued support!

The fiction books are now sorted by the authors last name alphabetically. It makes it much easier to find books and see what books are in a series. The books will still have stickers on them that show what genre they fall into.
