We are loving our new math unit on measurement!
A Peek at our Week
Writing: This week, writers learned that they need to use their pictures in their All About books to help teach the reader. For example, if their fact is "Penguins carry their eggs on their feet." then their picture should show that the penguin is carrying the egg on their feet. They can use captions and labels to teach the reader in their pictures. Writers also learned that they should not be afraid to use scientific words in their books. They can be brave writers and try words like "cartilage" and use context clues in their books to teach their reader what those words mean. Next week, students will learn how to make a table of contents and use headings in their books!
Math: This week, we began Module 3, which focuses on measurement and graphing. We began the module by learning how to compare the lengths of objects by lining up the end point. We cannot compare lengths if we do not line up those objects! Students are going to learn some measuring rules that will help them when we begin to measure with nonstandard units such as centimeter cubes and paperclips.
Word Study: This week, we worked with long a words and what happens when a word has a "Momma e" at the end. We worked with words such as cape, cake, plate, skate, snake, shape, etc.
Comparing and contrasting ourselves with a friend!
Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day will be here before we know it! Students will be exchanging Valentines with their classmates. They can create a mailbox at home to hold their Valentines. Details are below! Please make sure your child includes a Valentine for every student to avoid hurt feelings. No edible items on Valentines can be included. Please have your child choose Valentines that do NOT include candy attachments. Thank you!
