Why do some children still resist breakfast?
Some common arguments are lack of time, absence of hunger first thing in the morning, and distaste for breakfast foods. No matter what the barrier, parents can and should find a way around them.
5 Important Reasons Your Child Should Eat Breakfast
- Breakfast equals better behavior
- Breakfast leads to higher test scores
- Eating breakfast led to better class attendance
- More nutritious intake by eating breakfast
- Eating breakfast helps weight control
Creating healthy habits in your children
Here are some tips for parents on incorporating breakfast into their children's before-school routines:
· Prepare for school the night before by preparing the next day's clothes, lunch and backpack.
· Set the alarm for 15 minutes earlier to allow more time for breakfast.
· Say no to TV, video games and computers in the morning.
· Choose foods that require little preparation such as fresh and canned fruits, milk, yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, hard-boiled eggs, whole grain cereals or instant oatmeal.
· Eat on the run with celery stuffed with peanut butter or cream cheese, dried fruits, string cheese, juice boxes, milk cartons, or breakfast bars.
· For those with little hunger in the morning, offer juice, milk or a fruit smoothie made with skim milk and fruit.
· For those who dislike breakfast foods, offer something non-traditional like cold pizza or leftover chicken.
Set a good example to your children: eat breakfast yourself
Every South Creek Student has the option to eat breakfast at school

FT Civic League Coat Drive
South Creek Families:
Want an opportunity to show generosity? Need to clean out your closets? Well...the 2015 "Pass it On" Coat Drive coordinated by the Civic League is here at South Creek! We will be collecting new AND gently used coats of ALL SIZES...infant, children, and adult sizes are welcome! If you have a coat(s) that has been outgrown or a coat that you bought in a "no returns bargain sale" only to find it didn't work out like you hoped, this is your chance to participate and give a coat to someone who could really use some extra winter warmth! South Creek will help donate the coats and volunteers at the Civic League will sort and size the coats to get them ready to redistribute to families in our community. Coats should be in "like new" or "nearly new" condition with fastenings that function and no visible rips, tears, or stains. Just bring them into school and put them into the containers on the stage! We have until October 30th to collect these!
