In ELP and Computer Science News . . .
With only two weeks left in the semester, Mr. Evans’s electives class is wrapping up in style. After focusing on the Problem Solving Process and developing research, planning, and revision skills through the semester, Each student was asked to demonstrate these skills using a topic of their choice. Students were allowed to pitch any topic or idea for their Passion Project, as long as they were able to demonstrate growth, document their progress along the way, and have something cool to show off their results at the end. Student interests vary wildly, and projects range from learning the physics required to do snowboard tricks, researching and developing art techniques, learning sign language, or programming a game!
Each student has their own page on a collaborative Google Site, and by the end of the project they’ll add documentation of their work, explain their work process, talk about the resources they used, and reflect on what they learned. Some of these pages are already coming along amazingly, and I’m loving the enthusiasm students are showing for their ideas! When the projects are all completed, students will present their page to the rest of the class and talk through their work, as well as show off what they’ve accomplished over the last two weeks.
If you want to see what the students have done so far, even just halfway through their projects, check out the link below to go to the Project Showcase!
Virtual Holiday Spirit Week!
In Advisory News . . .
Becoming a successful learner isn’t just about academics. During our daily Advisory period, we utilize the Second Step program because it is a social-emotional learning curriculum that supports the whole child. It teaches skills for resolving conflicts, working with others, forming healthy relationships, and making good decisions—so students can be more successful emotionally, socially, and academically.
We launched our schoolwide holiday GooseChase challenge for students. Students use the GooseChase app on their iPad, phone, or any mobile device to participate. Below are the current Holiday Goose Chase Rankings! Keep looking for new challenges in the game to help your Advisory team win cool prizes! Go Tanana!

Alexya does a great job making she that she gets her math done weekly. She shows up to my zoom when she needs help; she emails me when I am not on my zoom. Alexya even did her math while she was on vacation in Hawaii. I am not sure that I would have been that dedicated. Keep up the great work, Alexya!
