Inspirational Quote

“In switching on the light of the Nativity scene, we wish for the light of Christ to be in us. A Christmas without light is not Christmas. Let there be light in the soul, in the heart; let there be forgiveness to others; let there be no hostilities, which are dark. Let there be the beautiful light of Jesus. This is my wish for all of you, when you turn on the light of the crib.”

~Pope Francis (1936) is the 266th and current Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, Bishop of Rome, and Sovereign of the Vatican City.

The Christmas Story - a Pre-K Student's Interpretation

Mrs. Murphy's Pre-kindergarten class has been talking about and reading The Christmas Story everyday since the season began. Recently, one boy was looking at the little Golden Book The Christmas Story and began reading to himself, "...and she said Bless us Oh Lord and these gifts which we are about to receive and then she got on the donkey."

Book of the Month Reading

This year we are starting a "Book of the Month" reading with all classes. Each class will listen to a story and follow up by doing a writing activity with Mrs. Trusty during each monthly visit.

A book will be chosen that can be read to all classes and one that has a lesson, or thoughtful meaning. The “Book of the Month” reading/response/writing will allow our students to read, write, and share their experiences as a school community.

December's Book of the Month

This month’s book was How The Grinch Stole Christmas. The students were asked to reflect on the quote, “Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.” All of the classes shared wonderful discussions about the true meaning of Christmas and how, we as Catholics, can shine the light of love and forgiveness on others this holiday season.

  • Here are some examples of their responses…

The True Meaning of Christmas

Jillian Ward 12/15/15

((I’m going to do this Dr. Seuss style.))

“Maybe Christmas, :he thought,: doesn’t come from a store,

"Maybe Christmas, perhaps, is a little bit more!”

The Grinch gets it, do you?

You can’t by Christmas, or sell it too.

Christmas means more, than toys from a store..

Christmas seems to be all about gifts,

Not the story of Christ that uplifts.

The true meaning of Christmas,

is the birth of Christ.

Our Savior, our hero, our heavenly knight.

The North Star, that lights up the night.

The Wise Men, The Shepherds,

Who all came to see,

The birth of our Savior, the light shining to thee.

King Harold who plotted our Christ’s demise,

But the Wise Men proved all too sly.

Gabriel who first brought the good news,

To Mary and Joseph, who soon flew,

To Bethlehem by order of Caesar,

Who wanted his taxes, for being a leader.

The true meaning of Christmas is not inside a store,

The true meaning of Christmas is more.

It is the Birth of Christ, our Savior, our king.

And even today, the angels still sing.

Christmas is not about what we can buy.

It’s about God’s love, that will never die.

St Paul School will be presenting the musical "Aladdin, Jr" this spring. The dates for the musical are Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1.
If your child is in grades 3 - 8 and interested in being a part of this production, an important parent meeting will be held after Christmas break on Tuesday, January 12 at 6:00. We will discuss auditions, scheduling for rehearsals, non-acting jobs for students, parent/family volunteer opportunities, fees, and any other questions you may have.
Please be looking for information and reminders of this meeting in the next couple of weeks on the school website and Facebook. It is very important that you attend as we must begin auditions as early as January 14 and 15.
We are looking forward to the planning and preparations for this fun musical production.
Have a blessed Christmas holiday and we hope to see you at the parent meeting on Jan. 12.

EdChoice KY - Scholarship Tax Credit Programs

Parents and families,

  • Your voice is being heard. The number of followers is increasing.
  • Here is an updated item asking individuals to “follow” EdChoice KY by New Year’s.

The 2016 Kentucky General Assembly is almost upon us. One important issue that will be brought up in Frankfort is Scholarship Tax Credit Programs. Parental choice is essential for quality education and scholarship tax credits will enable more parents to make that choice, no matter their economic standing.

Over the next few months, you will hear about this issue from EdChoice KY. The coalition is educating the Commonwealth on Scholarship Tax Credit programs which allow individuals, businesses and banks to contribute money to a 501(c)(3) scholarship granting organization and in return, donors will receive a tax credit to offset their state tax liability. The scholarships ensure that all students have the opportunity to obtain the education they deserve at a school that best suits their educational needs.

Fourth Grade Students Give Up Gift-Giving to Classmates & Give to Those Less Fortunate

Big image

Our Fourth Grade Students give up their gift giving to classmates to give to those who are less fortunate.

  • This year the fourth grade students are making a difference in the lives of many boys and girls at the St. Joseph Children's Home. Many of the children who are taken to St. Joseph Children's Home are between the ages of 5-15. Most have been removed from broken homes where they experienced traumatic abuse and neglect. Some have spent the holidays homeless and ignored due to their parents' drug additions.
When the fourth graders heard of the St. Joseph Home and the children who live there, they were willing to give up their $5-$10 gift exchange in the classroom to help brighten the lives of these children at St. Joe's. The class collected $350!! In addition to parents helping out by giving, some students gave their own money! The money is going towards the purchase of pillow pets and gift cards of their favorite restaurants. Every child at St. Joe’s will also receive a handmade card from the fourth graders.

  • Our Lord Jesus says: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35
