Deer Hill School News . January 13, 2023
Dear Deer Hill Families,
Although we're midway through January, this is my first opportunity to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I hope it has started well for your family. On Monday we'll honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As you make your plans, I hope you'll consider attending the town of Cohasset's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. annual breakfast. It is a meaningful community event, and a wonderful way to commemorate Dr. King. Please see the information from the Cohasset Diversity Committee pasted directly below.
All the best,
Alexandra L. Sullivan
Principal, Deer Hill School

The Cohasset Diversity Committee and the Cohasset Clergy are proud to sponsor the upcoming 18th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast. This year’s honored speaker is Arthur Bembury, Executive Director of ‘Partakers’, an amazing organization that advances the education of men and women in prison, helping to bridge the divide that separates those inside and outside of prison.
In conjunction with the 18th Annual MLK Breakfast, Cohasset’s Paul Pratt Memorial Library is sponsoring a town-wide read of “The Master Plan: My Journey from Life in Prison to a Life of Purpose’ by Chris Wilson, published in 2/5/2019. Copies of this illuminating book are available to borrow, prior or post the MLK Breakfast, to better understand the amazing good works of the ‘Partakers’ organization.

Need to Knows
- The Cohasset Public Schools will have its first Multicultural Night on April 13, 2023, from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm, throughout the Cohasset Middle and Cohasset High Schools. We are looking for individuals to help coordinate the evening. We will have a performance by the Origination Dance Company of Boston, as well as students from our schools. If you are interested, please contact, Aleisa Gittens-Carle, the METCO Director at agittens-carle@cohassetk12.org or Jenna Gibbons, CMS English teacher, at jgibbons@cohassetk12.org. We would like to have a member of the staff, or a parent representative from each school.
- On February 1, Deer Hill will participate MassDOT's Winter Walk, Bike, & Roll to School Day. We hope that you'll make a commitment to join the fun. If you live farther from school, consider meeting up with friends at a central location and making the walk or bike trip together! I'd love to see any pictures that show your participation -- feel free to email them to me at alsullivan@cohassetk12.org.
- In addition to the Walk, Bike, and Roll event, please consider participating in Mass Dot's yard sign contest! This year's theme is slowing down in school zones or on school property. Directions can be downloaded at the link below. If you choose to participate, please email me a picture of your submission at alsullivan@cohassetk12.org I'd love to see it and share in a future newsletter.
Keeping the Joy (happenings at Deer Hill)
- I tasked Deer Hill students with sharing their knowledge of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to help me with my morning announcements. Students from Ms. Kelliher's, Mrs. Clark's, and Ms. Frasier's class brought me quotes, facts, and pictures. Next week we'll continue to start each day with a celebration of Dr. King's legacy.
- Our winter Before and After School Enrichment Program (BASE) is up and running! Students are enjoying a wide range of courses including but not limited to cross stitching, dance, doodling, Lego challenges, and even Algebra made easy! We will have one more round of enrichment courses in the spring.
