reflection from mass this week

Our priest talked about how to talk to God, and now I want to talk to God. He told us that Aquaman can talk to sea animals, but we can talk to God. I was really happy to find that out. I had a good time there because I learned a lot about Jesus - Saul

What I learned in the Mass today is that we can talk to God as well. Father Tim told us that Aquaman was his favorite. He also told us that Aquaman had the ability to speak to fish. So the lesson is you can talk to God whenever you want to and whenever you need Him. - Aidan

In today's homily, Father Tim told us we could talk to God. He compared us to Aquaman actually. No hear me out. I know what you're thinking. Aquaman? But, it'll make sense once I explain. so, you know how Aquaman can communicate with all the fish, whales, sharks, etc., and they'll come to help him and all? That's how it is with God. We can talk to, ask for advice and help, or just tell God how your day went. He is always ready to help, advise, and just chat with us. - Elena

Box of Joy

St. Joseph Catholic School is partnering with Cross Catholic Outreach this Advent to provide Boxes of Joy for impoverished children. These Boxes of Joy are for children who may have never held a picture book, worn a new shirt, or owned a toy. The gifts we pack in a Box of Joy show God's unconditional love, and they will spark the joy every child should experience at Christmas. More important, they are symbolic of God's greatest gift: his son, Jesus Christ.

We know many families look for an opportunity to show God's love at Christmas by giving to others. We are looking for families who would like to pack an additional Box of Joy as a gift from their family. In addition to packing a box, the cost is $9 for shipping, etc. Ideas to pack in the box include: doll, car/truck/boat, small plush animals, sunglasses, handheld toy, hair accessories, socks, drawstring bag, etc.

We have a limited number of boxes available for families who would like to participate. If you are interested, please email Mrs. Haas at thaas@stjosephwhschool.org. You will then receive more specific instructions and a box to pack. Again, the cost per box is $9.

Please watch for much more information to be forthcoming on how you can participate in your class' Box of Joy.

booster meeting - tomorrow

Our SJCS athletic boosters is a group of parent volunteers that work to support the athletic program at our school. Attending meetings and getting involved with our Boosters is a great way for parents to earn service hours. Our first meeting of the Athletic Boosters will be tomorrow, Friday, October 7th at 9:30am. Check in at the school office. See you there.

It's Time to order Poinsettias!

Our PTO is once again selling poinsettias! Poinsettias come directly from Sunshine Growers, and they were beautiful last year! We are currently accepting preorders for poinsettias until October 14th. Poinsettias will need to be picked up from school on November 29th. Orders and payments are being accepted in the school office. Order yours today!

gospel reading this sunday

Luke 17:11-19

As Jesus continued his journey to Jerusalem,
he traveled through Samaria and Galilee.
As he was entering a village, ten lepers met him.
They stood at a distance from him and raised their voices, saying,
"Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!"
And when he saw them, he said,
"Go show yourselves to the priests."
As they were going they were cleansed.
And one of them, realizing he had been healed,
returned, glorifying God in a loud voice;
and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him.
He was a Samaritan.
Jesus said in reply,
"Ten were cleansed, were they not?
Where are the other nine?
Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?"
Then he said to him, "Stand up and go;
your faith has saved you."

St. Joseph Prayer

O Blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector of Mary, the virgin Mother of God, I choose you this day to be my special patron and advocate and I firmly resolve to honor you all the days of my life. Therefore, I humbly ask you to receive me as your client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction, to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus, and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death. Amen.
